I recently started a fairy garden. I purchased the John Creech sedum because it was supposed to be a slow grower but I know it will overtake where it is eventually. So I need to know how to thin or divide it. Thanks for any suggestions. Here is a couple of photos of where I have it planted. The sedum is beside/behind the gnome.

I divided mine by just pulling or cutting it apart so that each part had some roots. Almost all sedum divide very easily.

Here is a photo of the one I divided last fall. I also took a few pieces and stuck them in the ground. They have rooted.

Welcome to ATP! Your little fairy garden is so cute. I think you could just cut the plant in half while leaving it in place and pull half of it out when you are ready to divide. I have a plant I want to use in a fairy garden. Just need to get started.

That is a cute planting! Yes you can easily divide sedum. About 30 years ago my friend gave me some when I was moving and it stayed in a box for 2 months before I planted it. I still have some of the same type (not the one you are asking about) all around my yard.
