We are due for cold and snow on Tuesday. I figure it will be showers and not 18 inches.

Catherine - 5 acres - wow - that is a lot of land. What do you have growing out there?

about 2.5 acres are in pasture (mowed just once or twice a year) - the rest is house and outbuildings, our orchard of about 15 apples, 2 pears and 1 plum - the peaches didn't survive this winter. There are bramble fruits too. And then there are my gardens: Entrance, Perennial Cottage, Shade, Shrub Border, Bird Garden and Kitchen Garden.

The acreage is plagued with towering Black Walnuts and Box Elders and surrounded by corn fields. In the 16 years we've been here we've planted a lot of trees and hopefully someone will enjoy them one day.

Ugh! The story of the day here...

"A steady light snow will taper off and end by 8am. Mostly cloudy with increasing winds. Winds NW at 20 to 25 mph. Temperatures rising towards the low 30s."

That's a bit too cold for this time of year.

I wonder if even daffodils will appreciate this weather!

misting here. Temp was 60° but dropping. I clear a couple of barrels of moss & grass, didn't get to the 4th one as the mist then started. They have a few miniature dwarf irises planted. need fertilizer

Were those open for you yet this year, Cinda?

The few that I have are glorious this year, and they seemed to increase by about a third as well. Now I wish I'd bought several packages...instead of just the one.

I planted lots of yellow crocus and finally the February Gold Daffs have started blooming. So lots of yellow going on. Honestly, mid April before these supposed Feb blooming daffs had started.

Cold today. Ice on the shady veggie beds but it should melt off as soon as the sun comes around. The flowers seem to be fine in spite of the overnight nasty weather.

After two nights of 25 degrees, and yesterday's day temp just clearing the freezing mark, ours here don't look quite so perky. The ground was actually solid from cold again this morning, and the planting mix and water jugs in the Springhouse were frozen, too. A few extra Keckiella cordifolia seedlings left out there seem to be the only survivors so far. I'm not sure how though...their pot of soil is a frozen block. Whistling

just under an inch of snow overnight. 39° now. Daffodils are trying to be happy, but the stems are bent over a bit.

There's a new plant that I started from seed last year that's really astounding me today; Angelica (Angelica archangelica) with its big, beautiful leaves is seemingly unfazed by repeated frosty/freezing weather. For some reason, I'd thought this plant was a bit difficult to grow.

Thumb of 2014-04-16/chelle/ed7ce0

Most of my blooms look more than a bit peaked today, but this one seems unfazed.

Jo Ann,
Hmmm...an unplanned ice feature. I hope your pump is okay. Smiling
