Definitely NOT Amas-wrong beard, haft, veins, falls, etc. There are so many that it could be though. Uniqueness of the beard should help the id, although few references give beard information in detail.
Skiekitty said:Not that it really matters, but anyone have any clue on this one? Tall bearded.. pretty tall about 38-40" tall. True to color.
There are a lot of historics similar in coloration. I know because I did a search for the one I have similar to this. I decided that mine is "Dauntless" and it has PBF (slight)
Name: Lori Morrow Enid, OK (Zone 6b) I want them all!
I think your dark blue mystery is Claverack that you got from me through Mamajack's Coop. I would love to either trade or buy a some of that back from you. Mine died and I cannot find it anywhere!

I also think that the lighter blue one that you posted is Jane Phillips. I have it and have ordered JP as a test plant to be sure, hopefully it will bloom next year and I will be able to tell you for sure it that is in fact the name of that one.
The misnamed Amas is definitely not Amas. I got some other stuff from the same person, and this one is pretty, so I will plant it and hopefully ID it some day. I also got Barr's Cottage Maid with photos that do look like the HIPS picture.
Went thru pre-1900 - 1939 and found a few similars to the 2 tone lavender "not-Amas" blue. Check out Argent, Caterina, Lord of June and Morwell. Of course it gets easier once one has the flower in hand. Well, except for my allergy to fragrances.
Today I was a NoIDy girl. Being early for an appointment, I went up a side street to wait in the shade. There was a beautiful Victorian house for sale with equally beautifully neglected gardens and brick sidewalks. Guess who grabbed 3 rhizomes and a violet growing into the sidewalk? I am the rescuer of NoIDs from the RoundUp Spray Wagon! I wonder how old the variety is. The swords are short and green. Maybe they are dwarfs.
