I have a couple of Ninebark Coppertina that I'd like to plant and I'm finding conflicting info regarding deer resistance. Some say that it is deer resistant and others say it is prime deer food....

Has anyone had any experiences one way or the other with the ninebark, "Coppertina" in particular?

TIA....
Sherry

Deer have different palates in different areas. I didn't save tags when I bought mine two years back so I don't know the cultivar, but here, my ninebark is deer salad. They ate it to the ground. However, bobbex works well here.

They list elderberry as deer proof as well, advertising it as such at the local nursery, yet it is their main course. But again, bobbex has been keeping them away. Though, they still come around and take a big bite before they realize they hate it and spit it out.

We'll see what happens. We don't have a lot of deer, but it only takes one hungry one. We live in 'town', but on the edge of a vast woodland ...neighbors say we have one deer who visits us, but that seems unlikely. I've now heard from a couple of people back East who say that their ninebarks get nibbled, but not to the total detriment of the plant. Being hopeful, I've planted the two that I have and will see what happens. If they're eaten to the ground, I'll pull them back out and pot them until we have fencing up and try again...if they survive...

Thanks for the advice...
