Yes. Those labels were great. And I really liked the fact they included a picture of the dahlia. Sometimes it is hard to remember what they look like when faced with bags and names only.

hello, new to the site and thought i'd share some of my seed grown dahlias from the 2014 season. Theres a lady who works at a restaurant down the road from me and she loads the property with beautiful named variety dahlias, last fall she cut down all the plants and dug her tubers but left all the stems and seed heads lying in the gardens, I was lucky enough to notice this and asked if i could help clean up the yard a bit! So I ended up with a plastic grocery bag full of misc dahlia seeds. Sure it would be great to know the name of each dahlia that produced each plant that I grew but the situation is not that perfect. I did end up with some decent plants though, nothing that will be winning awards anytime soon but nice flowers that were fun to look forward to and enjoy when they bloomed. I will be growing as many new plants as space allows this year as well and can't wait to see what I get!

Welcome to ATP, jaym. Your dahlias are lovely and they don't need names to cheer up this dismal day.

Hi Cinda, thanks, yes I did save the tubers, can't bare letting them rot in the ground, and who knows maybe they'll improve with age?? I have plenty of pots so even if I run out of ground or raised bed space i'll put the saved tubers somewhere. I'll probably thin them out this year after I see how they do.
Still working on creating garden areas at my "project house" an abandoned house i've been fixing up for years, my rental house has no gardening area, and I would like to have some established gardens by the time we move into the house.
Some of those were pretty basic but all were nice, some more interesting. Whats fun is waiting for new plants to bloom from seed not knowing what they'll look like! I started a few inside early last year but the majority of those were just grown in beds just like zinnias. I'm starting more inside this year as well, along with other flowers seeds and a bunch of coneflowers. I'll have a few 4x8 raised beds in the backyard for growing the seed dahlias. I have 5 6x8 & 4x8 raised beds in the backyard just for zinnias & dahlias, trying to draw in the butterflies with a few big zinnia beds! And I use these beds for cutting as well.

Yeah i'm really trying to bring those butterflies in! I like the presence of them and the challenge of trying to attract as many as possible, the kids like them and I enjoy working in the yard and making my property look nice. Between what i'm starting indoors this winter and exisiting 1-3 yr old plants which should be more established i'm looking forward to seeing how the gardens shape up this summer!
