Hello,
I am looking for Amorphophallus or Sauromatum plants. Does anyone know of a reliable online nursery that sells them? I'd like to find fairly mature plants, as I would like to see one bloom.

Thank you.
Lorli

Hi Lorli,
Mature plants can be hard to come by online. eBay is the best source I've found for large tubers. Some Florida nurseries might carry them but I don't know about online sales. Someone here may have blooming, or near, size tubers but if they're in leaf (the case here) shipping is problematic. This fall may be the best time for searching.

They won't bloom until 2015 anyway, so if that's your main interest you have plenty of time, I could likely provide both of them for you then...

As they are now, shipping them would almost ensure setting the plant back.

They're amazing plants, I like the leaves far more than the flowers!

I like the leaves too. Only 1 ever bloomed for me. It was A.bulbifer and the dog loved the smell! Then I took it to work. It had beautiful leaves but when they started to die back, the cleaning lady threw it away.

So they can't be shipped now? That's fine and I would love to buy some from you. What varieties do you grow?

Thank you!

They can fe shipped anytime really, but if the plants not dormant it'll mean killing the leaf and roots, this can be very bad for amorphs, this years growth is quite literally produced from last years corm, if the corms all used up from makin these structures, and then u cut them off, tgen the corm won't have the energy to produce more...it'll either die or make a much smaller plant!

So far I have suaromatum venosum, and the Indian giant venosum too, yulensis, symonianus, a rare form of peonifolius, fuscus, a 10 pound Titan, a tiny start of lewallii and 4 forms of konjac-normal, beige stem, Leo's song and nightstick!
My normal konjac "pappy" was acquired a few yrs ago now and has gone from a golfball sized corm upto a beast! I just planted him yesterday, I know I'm way late! :(
Last year he pushed out about 70 runner pups, so yea...I have a few of those...still not enough, I wanna be able to leave em out all winter and somehow 70 isn't enough...go figure...

I desperately want to expand my voodoo collection but for multiple reasons it's not that practical, I've decided that instead of just blindly buying new ones, I'm going to focus on landing more konjac forms, they're so easy to grow and get up to an impressive size without becoming so unmanageable as a freakin 100 pound Titan!

My konjacs are just leavin out good...sorry for tge lack of pics...need to work on my phone and make some room

Smaller plants can be shipped. I did a couple trades last year for A. bulbifer and shipped them in 4 in. pots, and they did fine, but no, don't expect a large blooming size plant to be able to be shipped.
God gave us wings. He just called them horses
