If you don't know batik, it's an ancient method of dyeing and/or discharging the color from fabric using melted wax as a "resist." That's the elevator explanation, anyways. If you do know batik then I'm gonna bet you've never seen anything like mine. Being a self taught artist I don't have to adhere to the "rules." I've developed a batik style I call "deviant discharge batik." I start with black cotton, wax where I want it to remain black, discharge the color from the non-waxed areas then add dye back in. Check it out:
Reverse batik!! How beautiful. Amazing that you could get those very fine lines.
Thanks for sharing them. Pretty decor for a porch or linens for entertaining outside.

Thanks for all the compliments! Most of my batiks are intended as wall art. I have made a few lampshades and panels for privacy screens. Some are on rods and can be hung as banners but out in the yard, even with the UV treatment I use, they will fade over time. The shades are protected from UV rays by a backing of styrene.

Thank you! You'd be amazed at what you can do. If you would have told me 6 years ago that I would be an artist I would have told you, "I have a job." We are only inhibited by what we believe we cannot do.
