When I look at this picture, or the real thing out in my yard, I don't see a pile of branches with a tiny green vine down at the bottom. I see a mass of wisteria with beautiful blue flowers. Crazy? Maybe.


I ordered this wisteria 'Blue Moon' this past spring because it is hardy (to -40º) but with no clear idea where I would plant it.
When it arrived, the instructions stressed planting in full sun, so I looked around for the sunniest spot in my yard. I saw this pile of branches that needed to be hauled away behind the barn (where I put all my yard debris), and I saw it covered with a beautiful blue-flowered wisteria! And I truly believe it will happen...
Notice the two blooming racemes at the bottom!

Beautiful .. you do realize that once that wisteria gets going, that pile of wood will be permanent.

LOL. So true Ann. Very vigorous. I had to prune mine with a spade to finally control it. Beautiful when blooming though I will give it that. It's departure paved the way for quite a few new things so I don't miss it much.

Your wisteria should be very happy there.

I plant and design with a lot of wood and branches myself, and the plants love it!

Sorry .. I guess we're scaring Linda to death! I love wisteria and being in the South it has naturalized in many areas. In your Zone 4 it's probably much better behaved than in warmer zones.

Sorry didn't mean to sound negative. I truly love wisteria, fell in love with it years ago on vacation in VA. I wish I had a place for it in my yard.

Blue Moon' is much less aggressive than the Asiatic varieties. It is only supposed to get about 15-20 feet rather than the 30-40 that many others can get.

LOL, that's what I was just thinking as I read through this thread !

I love wisteria (doesn't everyone love plants they can't - or can only barely - grow?) and didn't realize there was a variety that hardy, hope I can get hold of one next year!!
