I too have Coffee House. Last winter was almost too much for it, so mulch it well this fall. Between the frigid temps and the icky spring, the plant took all summer to recover. The flowers last year were stunning, this year not so good. But the longer it bloomed, the better the flowers looked. It did send up more scapes this year than last. Since it was also a BOGO, I ordered it again because I have a coworker that has been lusting after it so I gave her some for a birthday gift and left mine alone to recover this year.

Sounds like you got a great order from Maryotts, most of them do well up here. I just got my Maryotts order the other day, guess what I am doing today......

Last winter was hard on a lot of them. I found yet another one sending up a bloom. That makes 10 now that will bloom.

Busy Being Blue bloomed yesterday. At first I though I had a wrong cultivar, it's really pink mostly, nothing in it looks blue to me, or even close to it. It's a nice pink flower, but should be named Busy Being Pink! Maybe the cold (40 degree) nights has affected the color, but when I go into the data base, I see others just like it. Confused

Always look at photos. You don't know what the Hydridizer has in mind when they pick a name. Shrug!

The good news is that the bloom is still in tact yet today, this cold weather is good for something. Hilarious! I still have some that have buds that haven't opened yet. Hope it doesn't freeze them off.

Since there is no true blue in daylilies, it's usually a combination of lavenders, fuchsia and violet in eye patterns and sometimes, depending on soil, temps, (or adding epsom salts) you get a deeper color in the eye pattern with bluish hints.

It's almost October and Private Reserve has started to send up a scape, I hope there's enough time for it to bloom before it freezes off. I so want to see that one. We have a nice week predicted, but who knows after that.

It is sad to watch those buds freeze or get frost bitten. I hope you get to see it bloom!

Tom,

Private Reserve is worthy of being potted and brought indoors to finish blooming.

Would it have to stay in all winter then? Is there some way to protect it from the frost until it blooms?

Pot it making sure that there is an insecticide and slow release fertilizer.
When it is finished blooming, keep it indoors, but with less sun light, until early to mid May. Give it water once a week.

We had temps down to 28 degrees on Sat. night. I had two Daringly Different blooms open that Sunday morning in that cold weather, and they were normal. That's quite a feat to open when it's that cold I'd think. nodding

Either that or you've got a volcano brewing beneath your property.

I just found a rebloom scape on Linda Beck. I doubt very much if it will get a chance to bloom unless our weather warms up.

It has been kind of weird year. I have two 1 1/2 year old unbloomed seedlings that are now sending up scapes. Looks like the cold fall weather is here to stay...at least for us.

Ken, I would be tempted to make a small hoop house over them or pot them up to bring inside just to see what they might look like.
