Cat, I have way more birds then what are in my Little paperback for Indiana. It does not list all the warblers for instance. Some smaller books just have the most common birds. Also remember that you will have birds that are passing thru during migration. Male and females are often colored different and some birds have different colors during breeding season.

That's Great! I love when I see a new bird! Easily amused I guess, lol.

Claudia said:Ann, those are great links. I own 3 bird guides, Sibley 's, the Crassly Guide and a small Indian Birds guide. But I still often find it hard to match what I have seen. real photos are much better so by looking on the second site I was able to confirm that I recently saw a Yellow billed cuckoo! I knew it was a cuckoo but not sure which one.

I'm glad it helped Claudia!

And I agree with what both you & Cat said after that. Even juvies look different & can be hard to ID. We get a lot of birds passing through in spring & fall migration plus we get our winter residents. I also refer to the All About Birds website that Cornell University has. That's cool b/c they have numerous photos of both sexes & different times of year plus juvies AND they give you a section to the side with photos of birds that LOOK like the ones you're researching so you can make comparisons.
