Once thought to be extinct, the Tennessee Coneflower (Echinacea tennesseensis) had a place on the Endangered Species List for decades. Happily, it has now been removed from the list.

That was quite a find for that professor. It's a beautiful flower and I am glad it was able to be removed from the endangered list Hurray! Hurray!

Me too, Vickie. I enjoy them here in my yard so much. They are the only coneflower I grow now. I love a success story and especially an endangered specie success story! Smiling
I garden for the pollinators.

I had really good luck with this plant in Austin, so I'm trying it here in my Houston garden now. I planted 3 plants in April. I have only had one bloom so far, but I think next year will be good.

I have seeds for this one, but am wondering about the hardiness of it in zone 3 ?
Does anyone grow it in more northerly climates?

Cheers!
The ATP database is a wonderful resource!
It says hardiness to minus 40ยบ yea!

I wasn't aware of this and I live in East TN. I've grown the purple coneflowers for several years. This summer I found red, orange and yellow coneflowers that I've added to my garden. Group hug
