My Caladium has flowed. If I want to collect the seed to plant.
How long do I need to leave it on the plant before removing?
How long do they then need to dry before planting?
I live in the tropics so I feel our very mild winter would be suitable for planting rather than waiting for spring.

Hi and welcome to NGA!

Wait until the berries start falling off, open the berries and plant .. don't let them dry out.

Hi Mj!

The ones that survived are doing very well .. they have cute little bulbs! I'll take a picture of the survivors tomorrow.

Here ya go!

They've been in this container for a few years now and I think I'll be transplanting them into something different this year. I was hoping for something really different but for a first try I'm happy since it wasn't a deliberate cross - waiting for everything to be just right, pollen and receptive female bits makes deliberate crossing very tricky and having just plain luck that everything happens at the right time. I have read where you can save pollen in sterile water for a few days though .. I might try that.

Anne, that is great! I like the green, arrow shaped one with a red eye. Cool!

Me too .. it's a bit different than the others. I also like the one on the bottom with the white dots. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that other leaves have that patterning too and it's not just a fluke.
