I enjoyed this podcast! I love Salvias and Agastaches, so it is a favorite topic for me!

Trish - I grew the Tutti Fruitti agastache for 2 years and then it just died on me. I think it was from lack of enough sunlight. The plants around it started shading it. I loved the smell of that one! I have some other cultivars this year growing in a full sun area with a little shade throughout the day from a young Bottle Bush tree they are planted under. I am growing them for the hummingbirds. They ARE a really picky plant to grow here in the south for some reason. So I agree with you that they die more than survive for me, too.

The term for the glitter look on some daylily blooms is called Diamond Dusting. Really adds some sparkle to a bloom!

I find it rather interesting that Jon has taken such a serious approach to his daylily hybridizing program. Especially for someone his age. You might laugh about it now, but who knows .... he might be a future well-known Daylily Hybridizer and Expert! It will be interesting to see if this "hobby" of his turns out to be something long-term and very successful. At least he has picked a plant species that can sell for some $$$'s to help fund his program. And you have enough land for him to do some serious hybridizing.

Have the other children (older ones) shown an interest in any particular plants or is Jon the only one so far to actually be studying and hybridizing a specific plant species?
