Troughs are more common in the UK, I think. We do have some small iris plants in a whiskey barrel, but I know it's not the same.

Dear Lucy, a lot of these are old sinks recovered from houses after they got bombed in the second world war! Instead of wasting them crafty gardeners used them by covering them in different mixes of cement and peat, or tufa.
Then grew Alpines and succulents in them, or annuals as well. Even the old horse troughs are used by the councils as flower beds now!

Hey I was fooling around. I have three whiskey barrels I plant with annuals every year. Course they would be more fun if they arrived here full and need to be emptied first..........

oh no hubby would have never bought them if they were full. Too expensive then. He doesn't really do whiskey, He gets uh stupid with hard liquor. He needs to stay on the beer.................
