That is one flower I don't have and it looks like a magnet for butterflies, so i think it is a must in the butterfly garden.
Very lovely and well detailed article. Smiling

Josephine, as a butterfly gardener, I agree it's a must have. Of course, as a native plant supporter, I'd say try to find whatever grows native to your area. Here in Florida, you could literally just dig these off the side of the road. People would probably let you take them right out of their yard. As you can see from my pictures, they attract butterflies of all sizes and shapes. I rarely see the Swallowtails on them, but I think that might be because they're not sturdy enough to support the butterfly. But it's great for the all the medium to small ones. They self-seed easy so once you have them, you've got them forever.

Thank you Josephine! On one of the other threads Jay posted a link which depicts which Bidens species are native in any given state.

I can provide you with B. pilosa seeds if you like. That offer goes to anyone who wants B. pilosa seeds.

Melanie, we see the swallowtails on them here but they don't really seem to light on them for long; they tend to do more of a fluttering wings, hovering type thing.

Now I am confused, because Bidens pilosa is not shown, on that map or maybe i missed it.
Maybe they are calling it by a different scientific name?

Oops sorry I missed it, it is there.
