An update on the grounded Syngonium specimen.


Trellised Philodendron at the left end, combo pot of Philos and Pothos that need a much bigger trellis on the ground, (and untrellised, hanging heart-leaf Philo in the middle, wacky mixed combo pot at R end, a seasonal thing.)

I combined the plants in the pot I showed on Jul 22, 2016 and the Philo hanging to the left in the last pic into this pot with a big tomato cage:

The aerial roots on the Philo from the last pic are on the prowl...!


Update on pot with swiss cheese (Monstera obliqua,) horsehead (Philo bipennifolium,) and some Pothos.

I love this thread also. so many things can be used for trellises...... you just have to sometimes think a little outside the box! I will go take some pics of some of some of my solutions

Excellent!! Fugly tomato cage does the job, but sadly, it's always fugly. And the 5-gallon bucket - UGH! Eventually it will be in something prettier!

Ok this was a bed frame that was left at the house I bought. I didn't need it so I took it apart and made trellises out of them.

I repotted this group a couple months ago and finally got around to bringing the pot to my front porch and putting a trellis in the pot yesterday. I'd left the pot under some trees in the back yard and the Pothos was already crawling away & taking root in the ground. Philo 'Brazil,' Pothos, Philo erubescens.

Arrowhead (Syngonium) vine update.

Will Syngonium live through winter where you are, Tiffany? Or will you have to put that one in a pot soon? Your picture reminded me that I have one (potted) that has some pink in the leaves, but I can't remember where it is. Will have to look for that one

I have a huge pot of it already & found it in the ground at another house less than a mile away with its' roots under the house. It was the tiniest thing that I thought was some kind of mini Caladium the first couple years until I dug it up to move it.

I'm going to leave that at the base of that tree, cover it with leaves if they don't all blow away like they did last year. If it comes back, cool, if not, I'll be right where I started this spring. ;)

Probably not something you'd want to let loose in the ground where you are.

Really creative ideas in this thread. I have little imagination and just cut some of my Black Bamboo and bend to fit.

I've redone potted basket plant (Callisia fragrans.) The previous pot fell apart when I went to move it. I kept the trellis & went with a long rectangle pot this time. I just did it today & added some Callisia soconuscensis to the pot.

When life give you hurricanes..... (Matthew). Hurricanes give you sticks and limbs. Sticks and limbs + sandpaper + exterior polyurethane + cup hooks = trellises. Yay!!! I just call it making lemonade!!

I too got some interesting shaped sticks from Matthew that will be useful for gardening! Great idea.

This is more of a case of leaning than trellising but a vine could cover one of these well - the metal thing from a campaign yard-sign.


This metal thing that I've lined with window screen & used as a planter could have been turned upside-down over a vine-ish plant with smaller leaves to form a mass of foliage. Maybe it came out of a deep-freezer?


If the wood shelf, currently laying down to keep some pots from being on the floor in greenhouse, ever breaks, I'm using the sides (coated with urethane) as a trellis.

Gloriosas - which can be grown as houseplants though mine are grown in containers outside with trellises
