My hairdresser has a lovely bed of red hardy amaryllis around a tree in her front yard. She has promised me a start of them this spring. She has no idea what their name would be, they were passed down from her husbands Mom I think, and my friend is 70, so the plants origin are old. Anyone out there have anything like this. Wish I had a pix of them, but they are a true blood red.

What you will have is a "pass along" Amaryllis, the best kind, since they come with the joy and affection of the previous gardener. Blood Red might be Red Lion, a cultivar which has been in gardens since the early 1950s. Someday you can pass them down to your family and friends.

Yes, I will pass them down for sure. They may be earlier than 1950 because they were my friends hubby's Moms bulbs. I have no idea how long Mamaw King had grown them (they are King's too, lol) my friend is 70 and I guess her family & my husband may be distantly related as she was a King & married a King, my Joe's Mom was a King & married a King. In both cases, they were not related, different sets of dogs as the old folks say, lol. There are tons of Kings, Smiths & Jones here in this area.
