Thread OP

I bought some recently that I thought would remain this color, but they turned red under the bright light at home. Red doesn't match a thing I own, so I would either like to sell them (the parents and pups) or trade them.

They are green if grown in lower light situations, turning pink to red with more light or direct sun. I have one that was dark pink but I moved it indoors last summer and it's now totally green again.

You can post a photo over on the plant trading forum and see if anyone is interested in either a trade ... or someone might want to buy them.

The tag said they need bright light, but if they can do well in lower light, I'll just move them 'til they become green again. Smiling Thanks for the tip!

You are very welcome! I've grown quite a few Cryptanthus off and on over the years and they've done extremely well in both low light as well as bright sunlight. Cryptanthus have shallow root systems and can be planted in fairly shallow containers. I have one (pictured below) planted in a shallow candy dish which has no drainage so I only give it a tiny bit of water every couple of weeks.

Wow, that little water! (And I really appreciate you sharing that they do well in low light, too.) They felt so lightweight at the store that I thought I might be able to drill a hole in the pot under the lip and hang them on a vertical surface.
