ATP Podcast #78: Late Winter Gardening

By dave
February 13, 2015

We're half way through February and that means that we're approaching the finishing line in our race to get through winter, so in this episode we're going to talk about those mid to late winter chores you might want to get to. We'll also feature a fun new segment of the podcast, "plant this," where Dave and Trish will each share their thoughts on a specific plant.

@Trish, I got seeds of Gaillardia Red Plume in trade--I'd never heard of it before this season. If you haven't, you might want to search a picture. It's different than any Gaillardia I've ever seen. Hope to get pics this year!

This podcast was a fun 'ramble' guys! Thanks. Wanted to mention I have a new Gaillardia started from seed that's not in the database, Punch Bowl Hybrid. Will put in when it blooms, the seedlings are about an inch high right now.

The seed packet came as a 'freebie' from Burpee with an order, and the packet description says it is a color combo rather unusual in Gaillardias - "lavender pink with creamy white edges". The picture on their site shows more of what I'd call rosy red and pale yellow, but still softer shades than the bright red/yellow most of them are.

@dyzzypyxxy, I created an entry for the database, you can add it to your inventory and then share photos when they bloom!

I too absolutely LOVE Gallardias! They are so easy and self seed. I did some winter sowing and haven't had to plant since.
