Well I mostly just read here ..as my orchid success is enjoying seeing others.. I have had such limited success just keeping a few alive for awhile.....I am getting better though... I have managed to rebloom one this winter... a nice bunch of flowers is developing now... maybe even a picture if they get through to opening...
SO.. I did run acrosss an English shop where he makes most of his flower lights... his orchid lights are so lifelike... made of silk flowers and with string lights... I thought ya'll would enjoy something like these... or get a bug to make them yourself...

Hmm, I have a string of lights with funny plastic flamingoes on the lights. But the flamingoes keep falling off, so maybe I'll go hunting for some silk orchids and replace the silly birds.

Orchid growing is a labor of love for me and can really get to be "addictive". Thanks for the nice words, Gordon. I hope you'll soon be able to get to the south, though with our cold now (14F with a wind-chill of 6F tonight!), I'm thinking I'm not near enough south. S. Florida is looking better and better...

Yes Elaine..sounds great.. Before seeing his I had never thought of making silk flowers on the lights...although I do have an old plumeria string that way...speaking of plumeria..I seem to have to inflo's developing now.. I think it is the one I got seeds from a 40 ft tree with bark like an oak in Panama...that means it will be white with a yellow center...well maybe another will bloom also...

Yes Ken. Further south to be sure..most of my family tree was from right around you there... Before they all moved to the delta...I helped reclaim an old cemetery in the woods just before they were to clear cut the area.. And have a MS historical marker on MS 12 between Ackerman And Sturgis...for my GGGreat grandfather and family there.. I know it's too cold there..for most of what I grow...

Lovely.. you knew what orchid I had... the flowers were awhile ago.. and I was thinking I couldn't remember what they were like... well... the plumeria gets a strond blast of east/ southeast light from the window... and it is at the edge and about 4 ft away from a 15 hour day 400 watt metal halide... just switched off from my HPS light a few monts ago... but the biggest spur to plumeria is bottom heat... they sit on a slab of 1" thick glass... that spans the top of two radiators that fit in a corner... so they get strong bottom heat... Mine have always done well... as I grow thhem on a hot roof in the summer... the membraine gets to be 165* F when the air temps get to be say 85*F...when folks ask how to spur theirs on I recomend moving them to the top of the driveway...they adore hot roots...IMHO... as it is from personal observation in a number of garden and wild situations... the light and food always plays a big part in success.. they are also loving being near my humidifier... the fog has increased the leaf size... also it was getting rid of the spyder mites... the poor plant likely has all the nourishment it was giving to them left over now... so flowers...
