I haven't emptied the GH for years till Mother's Day, especially since one year we had to cover the just planted window boxes Jamie and I had done for Holly for MD. So I guess I have a month of chomping at the bit to look forward to. I do need to amend a lot of beds with compost since it was not done last year being only 5-6 months out of back surgery. So I will not suffer for things to do.

I agree with Chelle, SCButtercup. I had the same ? a couple of weeks ago. I planted things out, and when we did get the feared late frost, temp covers were all that was needed. All is well.

I planted out a few hardy seedlings today, and of course it's now calling for large hail and very heavy rain tomorrow! Rolling my eyes.
Covers ready to go though, so as long as they aren't ripped away by high winds they should be okay.

The weather here keeps going up and down. I started hardening off some lilies that I had potted up (they arrived pretty early and I didn't want to just leave them in paper bags for a month). I had to bring them all back inside for a couple of days but they are going back out today. I see my planted lilies pushing up through the ground now, so I should be able to plant these out as soon as I can get them reacclimatized.

Outside I have Hellebores and Drumstick primrose blooming, tulips starting to show buds, and quite a few perennials raising their heads. We are at least two weeks ahead of the past few years, which is a really good thing, as I am out of room under my lights. I have about 40 trays of seedlings, some cuttings and my jumpstarted dahlias, just itching to get into the ground.

So much to do this time of year!!!

Yikes! 40 trays to get into ground!
I did that one year , but did not get it all out and planted!
This year I am about 20 trays, plus some winter sowing.

What I don't get in my own yard goes to swaps or community gardens.

I will give some away, and many go into containers - also my "trays" only hold 32 seedlings - not the 72 that some people go with. (its still a lot of plants) It also includes vegetables, though I haven't gotten a lot of those going yet *Blush*

WInter sowing isn't something I have had much experience with, and here in WI it makes for a really late start, so it doesn't make sense to me for annuals or vegetables. I usually have my Petunias blooming by the time I can put them outside, but I am a couple of weeks behind this year, and the spring is coming early, so that won't happen.

Sow after Memorial Day was the message of my Wisconsin childhood. Of course they didn't move the day around then.
