Lovey dubby Sad I love love all these pictures. The iris must be one of the loveliest of flowers and so varied. I am trying again to grow something other than Siberian thanks to a friend here (or perhaps DG). She sent a nice variety of colors and heights. I potted them up two summers ago and keep them in my garage. They are looking nice and healthy this spring and are under lights now. Am hoping they do well this summer. Some bloomed last summer, some didn't. I really need to feed them well since they are in pots. And some need to go into larger pots. It is so nice to be able to put them in the places that I have covered with cardboard and wood chips to keep down the weeds.

Thank You! for trips through all your gorgeous gardens.

A question for you Paul, and Jane, and Tom, and Arlyn, and Debra, and....

How long does it take to get such prolific bloom from your iris? The iris in the pics are in nice clumps with a lot of bloom. Is it a few years, or right away? Mine are not putting up that many bloom stalks each year, but since many are less than 3 years old, I just wondered if I should be patient, or feed them better - or both!

Different cultivars preform differently. Some produce a respectable clump the second year while others are at their prime the 3rd year and by the 4th year most need division and replanting. If you can replant 3 or more rhizomes of the same iris you will get the look of a clump sooner. Some of the medians, especially some of the SDB's clump up the year after planting.

Yes, I am not having a problem with the medians and dwarfs. Many of those are really happy to increase. The TB's just seem to be slow at it. I moved many of the closer together this last summer because the gardens looked so empty.

Here is a picture of the first planting in my tree ring:

A bit spread apart. World Premier went crazy with bloom it's first year. Not as prolific last year.

Leslie......if you want to try something that "I BELIEVE" has worked for me buy some alfalfa pellets and band your plants. I think it encourages increase. Increase=more blooms.

I think different species act differently, as well. I have I. germanica that needs dividing badly. I've done it twice since I got it 6 years ago. I posted it already but I'll do it again so you don't have to go looking. This was 3 rhizomes in 2009. I have given away lots and thrown away some.

The I. pallidas are increasing quickly, too. Both of these were single fans last Spring.
