Apple tree in Pushing the Zone in Alaska

Anchorage, Alaska, has a pretty short growing season, which is cool (55-65 F) and tends to be overcast much of the time. So, having a greenhouse would be great. Not having enough room for one on my urban lot, I fortunately discovered raised beds, and to extend the season, hoop beds. Hope you will enjoy my journey into new gardening worlds.

I didn't realize you couldn't grow apple trees in Alaska. What are the limitations--and how did you get around them?

You have to have very cold hardy trees. And honestly I just assumed fruit trees wouldn't grow here. Now I find out that there are many cold hardy trees with a variety of fruit that will apparently deal well with our long winters.

From -60 Alaska to +100 Virginia. Wahoo
