Maybe an e-mail to Fairchild and see if they recognize the first plant and the fern?

i'll wait to see if a specialist shows up here Smiling - for admiration and appreciation Smiling

Maybe 50 e-mails would make them aware of the problem that the plants need to be marked better.

Thelypteris reticulata looks similar, it's in RPH-B8. I notice the frond laterals attach differently, look at the big frond then the one above it.

na-a, this one merges the leaves, see closer pic.
i just love the waviness of it. it's very lush and shiny too.

That's what I was pointing out, but look at the big frond below and you will see the laterals don't merge with the midstem.

Thelypteris reticulata is called Lattice-vein fern, and the fronds are wavy but if you enlarge the photo using your computer magnifier you can see very close leaf veins which yours doesn't appear to have.

i zoomed in on a big pic (2nd pic) - the fern in the corner IS Thelypteris reticulata! it does have those little pleats!
here it is, you can see it!

so the last 2 pics are of a diff mystery fern. similar, but different!

i also zoomed on the other pteris look-alike in light green, across the stream - it also has pleats. so must be Thelypteris reticulata too! here it is, you have to try to see it to notice. so we are in RPH -B8 then?

Hurray! It does look like we are in RPH -B8, although the small Anthurium crystallinum is in RPH-B7 which doesn't mean they are not elsewhere too. At least the numbers are consecutive. Hilarious!

The site I showed the fern on is excellent, I first found the link to the photo on google images but then found the home page where I selected South Florida. The plants are listed alphabetically, I checked the little box to list by family so ferns were clumped together but I still went through all the alphabet to find the fern families and I checked every one of them! This is the only fern which came anywhere near, so it's a native. I used the 'find on this page' to search 'fern' on each page to make it easier.

http://regionalconservation.or...

At least one plant is named! Rolling on the floor laughing I went through the whole of the RPH -B8 section and checked all the plants there with no results, same with RPH-B7 although Anthurium crystallinum is positive.

I only checked the sections including the oh so obvious Adiantum though, we could check other sections and who knows, we might find it. The listing might have got muddled up on the pdf.

JC/NYC did you notice the Super Sleuth after Janet? ATP has a few top notch ID-er's and in my, just about daily, visits to this forum there are few to match her skills. I can hardly wait for more on this one. Very interesting plant. Would love to visit Fairchilds old haunts. Just finished his "The World Was My Garden" and loved it. I may send them an Email....... Thumbs up

oh, i noticed! i got quite excited that she came in - but... after that it got a bit overwhelming nodding
i myself go in spurts... Hilarious!
i started pulling out lines out of pdf, just to get a list of all RPH plants - will load it into excel and resort by RPH name (some day...). then at least i won't have to spend so much time paging. and i do use those pdfs constantly.
and i should have some video to orient myself among pavilions - so eventually i'll number them properly!

I've already checked all the RPH-B numbers! It's not so difficult to have another page open in another tab, with google images page waiting and ready. After searching one name, I highlight it in blue ready to paste the next name directly over it.

so i looked at some stuff - and still no go. as far as letters and numbers : letter=room, number=bed. so basically i checked many b's just to be safe , as that's the room the plant is in - and i can't find anything similar.
it's just not worth for me to spend more time on this, as it's just a curiosity, nothing important. may be eventually smbody can make a guess. or not.... Sighing!

Thank you for posting this photo JC. I had a long look through the Fairchild db that I did not even know about. I'm glad you were curious. I can't seem to get this one off my mind. I did find a begonia with strikingly similar veination. (Begonia 'Caravan') I tip my hat to you.

never saw it before i started looking thru massive quantity of pics trying to ID this.
.. and that's how i find new plants often...looking for something else Hurray!
if i saw it now in a shop, i'd buy it! it is a beauty.
