I don't ever remember them having so much spring stock. I admit to buying dahlias (and other plants) is so joyful without facing shipping charges.

It looks like your store has 6, or more sections, my store had only one section.

It sure is, because those shipping charges could be more plants and bulbs.

Last year it was $48.80 in shipping costs. It's why I'd rather buy locally but, of course, they'd never have all the dahlias I like. That's the problem many of us face.

After all the daylilies and irises I've ordered I did splurge and buy some dahlias at Winco. Not sure if this grocery chain is in other states but several are near me here in Apple Valley, (and the cost just goes on the grocery receipt!) All the boxes were marked "dinnerplates" but if they are not that's fine because it's always windy here and small is probably better. For $1.98 each I picked ; Seattle, Contraste, Bristol Stripe, Procyon and Hy Impact. I have always loved the little dahlias so as long as these grow, (and bloom) I will be pleased. I too like the idea of no shipping but our local 'garden centers' HD and L have very little to offer here in the desert. The closest Armstrong nursery is an hour away and all the other real nursery centers have been gone a long time. So it's either my gas or the shipping company's and it's fun to get packages and avoid the traffic....

Packages are always fun. I placed an order for more garden items last night at Gardener's Supply using their free shipping offer.

Today I bought more dahlias at Walmart, Bristol Stripe was one - 4/ $9.98 and Akita 2/$4.98.

My sister works at Wal-Mart and we bought a large quantity of bulbs that were marked down to 1.00. I have also bought several irises a few months ago and everything is growing. This month is a no plant buying month but all my new beds are full and I have plenty of seeds to get going. I think I have three packs of dahlia seeds from different places so those will be fun. Hope everyone posts their pictures, I so enjoy seeing everyone's plants. It gives me the garden fix I need especially if they are plants I don't or can't grow!

I picked up a few packages of Dahlias at our Walmart last week.. I got Ferncliff Illusion, Lucky Number, and Blue Wish. They were 2 bulbs for $4.98. I made sure the bulbs were all firm and not mushy. Has anyone grown these kind before? It is going to be about a month before I can get them in the ground here so am wondering if you think I should put them in pots or just store them in a cool, dark place. Let me know you thoughts. Thanks!

A cool dark place would be ideal.

I haven't grown the names you mentioned.

I potted the clematis, red oriental poppy and echinacea (they said two roots but there was only one). Watered and put osmocote on my other stuff growing in the garage. I MUST repot those peonies.

Hi there everybody,

I have the following on order:

1.Arabian Night - five of
2. Nuit D'ete - five of
3.Bishop of Canterbury - five of
4. Bishop of LLandaff - 10 of
5.Rip City - five of
6. Purple Gem - five of
7. Karma Choc - 10 of
8. David Howard - ten of
9. Twynings Smartie - ten of
10. Night Butterfly - five of

A lot of them are dark, of different flower types , for wending through a border.

All I need is to put in the hundred hours to get them up and running after the soft winter. I already have quite a few, mostly singles. I have about twenty or thirty cannas as well, including a couple of the vast canna musifolia ( which I will have to bring in and out each winter and spring).

I tip my hat to you.

Nice selection,

I am curious - I am surprised any cannas need to come out of the ground in zone 9.

Are you from the UK? - Americans never use the word wending - nor refer to weather as "soft"

Thanks so much. I will get them in the ground asap. I am really chomping at the bit to get mine out of the basement and started. I am exerting all my self-discipline to wait til April 1. Even if many of THEM aren't. lol
