It will do fine, Carol. My broms never get covered, and we've been down into the 30's many times. (only once this winter, though, thankfully)

My little Den aggregatum has popped open most of its buds today. It sure puts on a show for such a small plant!

Good Morning, it's the calm before the storm in Memphis this morning. Can't get much done so Hi everyone out there that I haven't visited with in a while. Try to get someone to get on my roof is like pulling teeth, maybe I'll have better luck when it gets a bit warmer. But have renters moving out next week and need to get that roof done then I can move in! I hate standstill!
Here's the only thing blooming, RLC Trevor Compton, 2ft tall and very reliable. So I keep him around. You can only see 3 of the 4 blooms in each pic.

I missed the OSO show, I did not want to travel the Mountains of Ark in Feb this year. Driving is getting harder for me because I'm just so not into ice!

Elaine, your ahead of me with your Den aggregatum, have to go look at it this morning, it's been putting out spikes.
My Cym Sara Jean didn't bloom for me this year. Think I'll try a different spot for it this year and see if that helps.

Ursula you may just have to move to FL, T-shirt and shorts weather here. Forecast is looking good and I'm going to have faith that it will stay that way. Moving stuff out of the greenhouse !

Need to get some pics, got a few things blooming.

Roberta that's quite the Floozie ! Very pretty.

Mj, but then I will have to worry about Hurricanes? :-)
Seriously, sometimes I wonder what made us move to NJ, but in those years it was the job! And now I just simply couldn't picture us leaving any longer. Surely Spring is around the corner. But - I will smack anybody complaining about the heat this Summer around here....

The Love Memory 'Fizz' is so pretty, and yes, very similar to my little noid, but I think mine is just a bit less pink than yours. My camera adds a bit of red, but those edges on mine are definitely purple.

Philip, welcome and lovely pics of your Bletillas. My ground orchids are all Spathoglottis now, sadly. I tried the Bletillas, two different kinds have petered out on me. I think they just don't get enough winter dormancy here, or they don't like the hot, humid summer weather.

Yes, I have one of those, has not bloomed yet, Ken. But I am hoping it will put on healthy growth this year. Oh, I also have Jewel orchids, Ludisia discolor and the 'alba' version which has gold veins in addition to a whole bunch of Cymbidiums that have not bloomed very well for me. So, I mis-spoke when I said my "only" ground orchids are the Spaths.

My Vanilla planifolia grew about a foot last year, but has also lost all its leaves, now. The stem still looks green and plump. Does anyone think it will survive? It's probably one that should have come indoors for the whole winter, like the Vandas.

I'm pulling MG Desk duty at the Extension Service today and giving a turf grass lecture at a library south of here tonight. Just another 14 hour day for this old retired guy. Shrug!

Elaine, very nice Den. aggregatum. Good growing! Your Lc. Blazing Treat is another cousin of my Eva. I brought her in with me so all could enjoy her for the day. She has 4 spikes with 6 flowers per spike. Quite the show.

Philip, nice Bletilla. You see, some good things do come from Indiana. Hilarious!

Bert, nice floof!

Ken, easy for you but word is not in yet from the patients. Hilarious!

Ursula, love the color on your 'Fizz'. My nobile type Dendrobiums seem to be suffering this year and I have no idea as to why. They lost most of their leaves on schedule but didn't bloom or recover. Shrug!

Actually, I hated extractions, Jim. It seemed, well, just so mundane.

I just got in from what was supposed to be a 45 minute program, presented to a Garden Club. It lasted over an hour and I would probably still be there, answering questions, if I had not said I had a contractor coming at 11:00, and had to close the program.

I will be at our Extension Service office Friday, giving away trees.

Elaine, all my Vanilla orchids are in a greenhouse, and are actively putting on length/leaves. I don't know about whether you need to bring yours in in the winter months. I would have to do some research to see whether these plants can be part or even fully deciduous. Mine are now pretty well established, with vines up to 3' long. I have never seen leaf-drop, other than when the parts were much smaller and then, those never made it. I really never knew why. All mine HAVE TO BE BROUGHT IN. I have several of my Sarcoglottis with stems, some with 1" stems and some with 12" stems. I am still waiting for those little green dragons to pop out.
