This is the other one I bought at that same plant sale. I am holding a quarter close to it so you can see by comparison how small the blooms are. I like it a lot. It is evergreen also.

My little blue iris cristata. I guess I am going to buy a white one as no one seems to grow it. Perhaps the white and yellow is not as hardy and the light blue is. They are native to this area but many people dig up a plant from its natural habitat in the wild and put it in soil that has not been amended for growing things and in full sun. The ones that survive are the ones that get swapped about a lot.

This usually blooms the first of April here. Hard to imagine looking out at the snow/ice cover that anything will be blooming in a month. Irises are soooo resilient.

This is a big old flower. I dug it up in a friends low area where she said only little yellow flags grew. It went in a pot for winter interest with flowering kale and pansies. I added it only for the green tall leaves and after the pot lost its blooms last spring I just put the pot aside until I could decide what to do with it. Imagine my surprise and delight when it bloomed.

It is almost four feet tall.
