Anne, if you get to visit your brother in Columbia stop and see this gal. Her greenhouse is located in Swansea, it is SE of Columbia, not far off I 26. She used to have hundreds of tilly's.

Anne, I was cleaning out a closet yesterday and found an old camera. Before I tossed it I charged the battery to see if it worked. It did not, but I found there was one photo still hanging around in there. The date is 12/31/2003. It is a bit fuzzy and I wouldn't know if it was a bad shot to begin with or time has softened the edges. I lost all my old tilly's in last years freeze; I'm down to one T. brachycaulos from my son's old home in FL.

I lost a few of those Florida-native tillandsia this winter. I just wanted to see what survived. Only the Spanish moss made it through. The majority of those native tillandsia were kept safe in a greenhouse.

Wow Alice ... kind of looks like mine!

We got half the new greenhouse up today - don't have a picture of it at the moment and too tired to go downstairs and take one .. definitely a picture tomorrow!

Ken, I pulled bushels and bushels of spanish moss off some hydrangeas yesterday. Storms over the weekend brought tons of it down on all the shrubbery. I do use small bits of it in the bottom of flower pots to cover the drainage hole. Keeps the soil in until the root ball develops.

Anne, good work! You are making real progress on that GH. Wish I could ID that Tilly for you. Nothing in my admittedly incomplete inventory matches it.

Not only do I like to see it on my trees, especially since I lived for 2 1/2 decades on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where it grows abundantly on cedars and live oak, I have found a practical use for it. I place it strategically to shield my orchids from late morning to late afternoon sun. It does a great job! I guess you could call that natural, symbiotic shading. Shrug!

LOL people pull it out of small trees and shrubs here because it prevents the sun from reaching the leaves. I can see it being a good screen for your orchids though.
