Good news!!!! the friends plant sale had Voodoo lilly bulbs for sale!!!! I might get one... or two. They run on Mothers day weekend. which is in may. Although I did promise for the yard I'd stick to day lillies. A stinky corpse flower might be asking a bit much... sense I get to buy carnivorous plants after the sale.

How many years until they bloom anyway? nodding

Not sure, mine was fairly large when it was given to me and it bloomed the first year. Much larger than an apple smaller than a small cantaloupe.

They're actually very heavy feeders!
In fact, it's hard to give too much, 2 years ago I ran one on 11-55-11...
Underpotted and over fertilized is always a combo that leads aroids to pup... Mine gained 3 pounds itself, but also pushed 50 something pups!

They are very hardy tho!
Tough to dish out more than they can handle really... Assuming the plant even crosses your mind once it's out of season... Amorphs really keep good for me, atleast the ones I've trying... All but the Titan just get thrown in boxes and stuffed where they fit... In a time when I've lost all my plants...I haven't lost a single amorph! They really don't thrive on neglect, last year I likely only increased my numbers by 10% thanks to neglect, as opposed to... Gosh what's the return on that... 1 plant turns into 55... 5500%? Hrm Blinking
You all really do go on about the smell tho... To me... It has a certain special... Bathroomy kind of smell....mmmm....
I think the blooms are awesome!
My family deals with it pretty well... But even hidden away in a back bedroom.... There's a lot of holding of breathe... Admittedly, mine included...
Just let it spike up and nip it out... It won't hurt it, likely to help it really, as producing that massive spike with no root to even so much as take a sip of water, it's really quite draining! My big ones use up 40% or more of their weight on blooming, and look quite deflated... I'd love to see it in time lapse!
I think for most folks, konjac is a great way to start, peaonifolius is just as good, and basically just as easy...gets a lot bigger too.
There's many small one will the same care too, it can be an addicting world of plants if they strike you...
I'm pretty excited to be trying out some new types of konjac, last year I traded for the 2 main named subspecies, nightstick, Leo's song as well as beige stem, they were so tiny but manage to more than double in size last year, they're close to...ahem... Hulled walnut size...lol
They'll be off and away after this season tho!
They usually double or triple in size on a good year, and pup, they usually bloom pretty small really, but it can be hard to judge when, I'd wager 2 pounds, but if they didn't, and grew well, then it would be 4-6 pounds the next year... That's gunna bloom for sure! Bigger the bulb, bigger the bloom!
Sadly I've lost my pics... I love showin em off... 8' tall stalks and spikes aren't even huge! They can really get impressive!
Titans are really handful tho, unless you have a greenhouse with stable temps and the right environment, I wouldn't recommend them... It's not the size, but the unpredictable seasons!
One year...no worries, next year it's got a 5' spike on Xmas day with no signs of slowing and no place to go...
Kind of like those nuts you hear about that have a croc in the tub...
"He was so small and cute when I got him!"

Thumb of 2015-05-08/Swayback/b41370

Almost time to toss him outside!
I can't wait! I'm guessing the shock will make him go dormant... Ha!
My plan is... Grow this summer, dormant for fall and winter, and spike for next spring... Wonder what his plans are?

It's actually burned pretty bad if you look close... It grew right up into those Fluoro tubes... Actually it reached up into it...
If you watch a time lapse of amorphs growing, the open at night, and close up into a vase shape in the sun, I left the light on a few days and it closed right up... Meaning it grew taller overnight, there was no room for that!
If I can get myself together, id like to start some leaf cuttings, the burned branch has no leaf, only the vein of stem remains, should be good stock for cuttings...

Haha!
I keep one warm the winter of 2013/14, in hopes of an Xmas bloom!
It had a 3' spike for Xmas and was opening for New Years...
The wife's family wasn't impressed...
Shame it didn't pop a week earlier!

Awesome!
Did you just go for a regular bulbifer?

The leaf bulbs are too cool!
You just wait!

To me the blooms are just a little bonus, I really love the form of the leaf, the life cycle is fascinating too.
Clearly a successful strategy, or they wouldn't still be here all these millions of years later, but it sure seems foreign compared to most plants...

Here are some pics from our database showing the bulbils in the leaf axils.

Even small plants make bulbils. In a few years you'll have a forest!

My plant had not sent up a leaf stem and I was starting to worry that something had happened after the bloom this winter. That maybe somehow I had lost the bulb, Then last week I finally started to see the leaf stalk and not only that but there are at least 5 new plants coming up. The main plant is right in the middle and not looking like much yet but coming on. Not entirely sure what to do now. The bulb I had is really pretty good size and practically filled the pot. I am thinking I need to re-pot it now. I am wondering if the new growths should be removed now or later. I haven't pull the plant out of the pot to see if the new growths have roots of their own yet. Any opinions on this????

You should be able to gently left the smaller ones, roots and all. I've used a spoon so as not to disturb the the others close by. Have a small pot to plant each in. They will take off quickly!
