Another thing I have found helpful is to contact your local extension service....most U.S. states have them, and I'm sure they are around in Canada, as well.........most have web pages devoted to gardening , as well as to "farm crops".......and, with info from local iris Societies, Master Gardener's Programs, there is lots of "free knowledge" floating around, that is "specific' to a person's own area.

Great advice, Arlyn. The local extension is there for the public. USE IT!

As to borers, I have never seen one anywhere in Arkansas or heard of anyone else that has had one in this state. I am glad. If I had seen an iris borer when I was a little girl helping Mama in her garden I would be over on some other plant site right now..... 'did you say iris. oh yes, my mother used to grow those.' lol
Thro' all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing; It finds an echo in my soul— How can I keep from singing?

I was worried about that when I posted. Crying

I had borers when we lived in the Chicago area -- so I've dealt with them -- but I've not had any here yet. (knocking madly on wood!!!!!!)
