Did someone say spring? Snowed a little here yesterday, melted though later in the day on the driveway but otherwise the ground is still mostly snow covered from winter. Temperature last night was -16C (3F), today's expected high -7C (19.4F), and the low tonight projected to be -18C (-0.4F). That's not factoring in the windchill (wind to gust to 40 kms. per hour (25 mph).

"Normals" for this time of year here: low minus 4 (25F), high plus 5C (41F). Sighing!

They are calling for a high of 74F. Right now it is overcast but that usually burns off. I wouldn't mind if it stayed cloudy all day once in a while.

Sorry I missed all that shakin' goin' on last week. It's hard to dance strapped to a car seat. We got back to AR yesterday after driving in the rain all day. I was sorry to leave FL. After losing my Pearl Harbors last year, I broke down in the fall and ordered more. I had to leave them full of scapes, but I did get to see a few blooms. I was surprised to see them so early. Usually my Sweet Patootie blooms first and only had a few scapes appearing. Maybe because the Pearl Harbors came from Michigan, they think it is spring.

I was really happy to see buds on epis in the sunroom, as well as some of the other plants. Our Bradford pear is in full bloom, so is forsythia and daffodils. No pictures yet. It is raining.... Sighing!

We had so much snow yesterday and last night that I had to push snow just to get the door open. I would say at least six inches even though they said two inches, no one told it when to stop here. Hilarious! Our neighbor already cleaned out our driveway with his big bobcat, I shoveled the steps and sidewalk. I sure hope that is the end of snow for this spring.

Oh Betty. Hope that is the end of it also. This year has been so odd. Really chilly overnight around here and chilly for this time of March here today. At least the sun is shining.

According to the calendar I should be out pruning my roses. Most years I am either pruning now or have already finished. But so cold this year the roses have not started up growing yet. I need the leaf buds to swell so that you can see which are good green growing branches and which are dead for pruning. Although it looks like an excessive amount of winter kill this year.

Rita, I hope your roses are just sleeping and not dead, that would be terrible if they are. Sad

Truthfully I am very worried about them as they have never looked this bad coming thru a winter before.

I have thru the years lost roses over winter that have died but not for years now and not many, many ones at a time. Don't know what I would do if they die, I no longer have the energy to dig out dead ones, buy new ones and replant. So hoping for the best. I need some warmer weather.

@Newyorkrita I hope your roses survive the horrible winter you have had. I can understand the digging part. It takes me forever to dig holes for plants and the next day I can barely get going.

Now that I am older basically all goes pretty well in the garden as long as all I need to do is maintain it. No more big projects for me. I just want to enjoy my garden and all the work it took to get to this point.

I have lots of roses. I just hope I don't get a significant die off. But it happens with roses if there is a bad enough winter. Roses are fussy things. And this past February was brutal cold.
