I planted mine on the half-shady side of the house next to the tiny fish pond. Each time I change the pond water I put the old 'fishy' water on the Walking Iris. It seems happy enough; it's an easy plant to grow.

The yellowish markings on the flowers show that it looks like Neomarica northiana.

Neomarica gracilis lacks the yellowish markings.

Looks like some of the photos in the database are in the wrong entry.

If the flowers become yellowish toward the base, they are not N. gracilis.

Walking Iris (Trimezia gracilis)

Has anyone recognized that Neomarica species are determined by the characters of their flowers?

I think the original poster was happy to have us come up with the common name 'Apostle's Plant'. If she's happy with that then I am happy, too.

Now I will wait for my plants to bloom so I can take a good photo. Maybe my own are not Neomarica gracilis as I thought they were. Time will tell.

Many nurseries get the Neomaricas wrong. Here almost any Walking Iris gets called Neomarica gracilis. I've even seen the blue Neomarica caerulea called N. gracilis.
