Well, we are having rain today and that is not good but .....Tom, 10 degrees and more snow?!!! I hope you get a long growing season to make up for the lost days of spring.

Snowing here this morning. It is not sticking to the road but means business everywhere else. 36°.

I know what that is like Lucy. And it does pile up on previously packed ice and snow. I hope it stops soon.

Bonnie-I keep a bloom record of sorts. I have a spiral note book that I keep each years bloom record. I count bloom stalks and number each one. This way I know when and how many bloom each year. I transfer the number to a spreadsheet, but not the dates. If for some reason, I want to go back and look at that, I can. The exception to that rule would be rebloomers. I note in the spreadsheet "Sum" and/or Fall bloom quantities.

You are all so much more organized with your bloom logs. My log each year is just the date each one blooms. All my iris are mapped and for multiple plantings of the same variety they have a designation (such as Acoma2 for second Acoma planting). So I just list the first bloom. And last year listed a first rebloom date too. I started doing this more out of curiosity about length of bloom time around here than anything.

It helps to know when a plant bloomed in previous years. I just got this computer in '09 & don't do spread sheets, although someone talked me through one for pink SDB seedlings.

I moved this iris from the front bed to the back two years ago. I guess I missed a piece of it as it came up among hyacinth foliage. I noticed it nestled down among the green leaves this morning. Little guys are resilient and will bloom in difficult circumstances.

It appears the hyacinths didn't shade it out too much. Or it bloomed just to remind you it was still there waiting to be moved!

Plants have their own ideas. Some years ago I dug MTB 'New Idea' because I thought too much shade was moving in. It has grown & bloomed happily there ever since. So I leave it alone.

The light is fading a bit and now they are in shadow. This was new last year and this is its first bloom for me. It increases well and has three bloom stalks. The photo shows it in blue but it is pure pale lavender. It is lovely.
