Moles make holes like that, too Ann. If you have a GoPro, you could set it up at dusk and turn it on for a while to see what shows its face? Mine's programmed so I can turn it on and off from my phone, remotely too.

I didn't know crawdaddies made holes in the garden! Always thought they were purely an aquatic critter. I sure love ATP and all the crazy info you learn here.

I always though craw/crayfish were water dwellers too Are there different kind down south? My first thought was also snake.

My, I do learn something new all the time ... Thank goodness. I would never have thought about crayfish living so far from the ocean. I live two blocks from the beach and would never suspect that one of those little critters would "walk" so far. I don't believe I have seen that type of hole before either, at least not out in the open.

They are water dwellers but down near the coast the water is not that far underground. They dig their holes down to the water level, when it rains they come out to feed.

Jay is right. And you must understand that Florida has a very high water table. This is also why if you ever decide to retire in Fl. be VERY careful when buying a house -- they build them on drained swamps here but when it rains you might get a very unpleasant surprise.

I do know that if you have a swimming pool and you need any repairs or new coating, whatever; you must call in the experts to drain the water. If you do it yourself, you will have a very expensive pool popping out of the ground. Seriously, I've known it to happen (not to me !).
