I've noticed little downy woodpeckers and a larger "woodpecker-ish" bird--maybe a sapsucker (didn't get a very good look at it) coming around my house and I would LOVE to attract them to suet but every time I put it out, the grackles and starlings attack it and it's gone within minutes.
Has anyone found a way to deter these feathered terrors???
I've tried the suet cages inside the outer cage feeders--they just stretch until they can reach the suet.
I've tried the upside down feeders--they jump from the ground, hang a toe off the wire and grab a big mouthful.... gotta give them credit... thought that was pretty good.... they even reached my new feeding station 8 feet off the ground
I've about given up... I'd never do anything to actually harm them but I would like to ring their necks sometimes!!!
