On our other web site, a spoke person for them told us he doesn't like them as well but as he was informed, they sell and so they keep doing this. I think the coloring used is very non-toxic and allows enough light thru to not damage the plants. It is not regular paint as we know it.

Lucille, I love painted ladies. Hate painted plants. How about the new tattoo make-up. I can't imagine needles that close to my eyes. My wife had it done but unlike regular tattoos, they do ware off.

Actually, I have a real tat, a very small flower, so small it fits under my wristwatch. But there is something repugnant to me about painting a cactus.
Oddly, my opinion about painting does not extend to all plants. One year I painted the outside of some dried gourds and made bird houses out of them and I felt perfectly OK with that.

Since tats were brought up, I realize this is straying a bit off topic but as a retired nurse, I would like to warn against the recent practice of scleral tats. Just a bad, bad idea. Please don't do it.

Had to look it up. Wow!! 'sticking a hypodermic needle filled with ink into the white of someone's eyeball'. I was thinking along the lines of eye brows or eye liner. Myself, I can't think of anything I would want on my body for a life time. Bad enough to get mother natures' marks with age, don't need to add to it.

I bought this, it was completely yellow with sparkles and paper thin with dying leaves leftover from Christmas. I soaked it in a bowl of warm water for 10 minutes and peeled most of the paint off. Some leaves were damaged or rotted but it looks like it should start growing again.

I'm glad you rescued it, Keith! I hate what they're doing to plants just to sell more of them. It looks like it'll do fine now.

So glad someone saved it! The trend is not as usual here, the painted plants, the most common is during the holidays everything gets glued and snowflaked. And glittered too. How awful!
And another trend I witness recently is the glued mulch on succulent and cacti soil. Colored grit that gets like stone, I wonder how anyone can even water those plants. What are they thinking anyway? grrrr
In some Native languages the term for plants translates to "those who take care of us."

Your plant is not 'Out of the Woods' yet. Watch watering it due to it is prone to rot easily. Also induce it to light slowly and then very bright light maybe after a few months. This hybrid is stronger then it's parents and sends offshoots readily. I have a few but their just slightly different. Phylogeny of Aloe aristata. Parentage for xGasteraloe 'Flow' (which I believe yours is ), A. aristata x G. carrinata var.verrucosa. It is also listed for parentage of a few other gasteraloe..

After it's long soaking I was worried about rot, but I think a month of no water should be ok? Then a small watering until it looks stronger to soak it up easier.

I can't imagine anyone thinking those painted colors are more attractive than the natural colors that succulent plants can make!
