Hello all,

I apologize if this has been covered before but I have a question about thinning seedlings. If you have a cluster of let's say three seedlings in a peat pot (in this instance they are dill) and they all look so good and healthy, will they combine to make one huge plant or will there be troubles as they try to establish themselves individually? I hate the idea of snipping off two healthy seedlings so I am hoping they do indeed grow up together as one huge plant.

Thank you all so much in advance,
Benny

Okay, so my question is, are you planting the dill outside, because dill doesn't like to be transplanted, at that size especially? If you are planting in the garden I would say go ahead and plant all three just as they are. I have planted dill that close before(direct sown) and they do fine.

You could gently tear the pot apart and separate the dill but i don't think it is really necessary and i think they will do better if you just plant the entire pot.

Hi there abhege,

Thank you so kindly for your answer to this! I am going to be planting the whole peat pot outside once we get closer to my last frost date (It is snowing right now). So probably a couple weeks. I like the idea of planting as is! Thank you! I just didn't know if it would cause harm and if you say they did fine, that sounds awesome to me.

Thank you so much!

Good luck with it! I always grow dill but I never really use it. Then I let it go to seed and collect seeds for more dill! I just like growing it.

I made some a couple of years ago but they were so so. My mother always says it depends on your water. I don't know. I hope you have good luck. I may try again.
