I'm pretty sure I got this one from Home Depot, but it's possible it came from Wal-Mart or Lowe's. Wal-Mart is local, but the others are special trips and I don't make them often. I think it was picked up on a special trip. The label said CactusCollection.com as the source. I asked about it before on this thread: The thread "Sedum mexicanum?" in Cactus and Succulents forum
I really like the plant. So far it's an easier grower than many sedums in that it hasn't changed its' mind about growing well Smiling . It would be nice to have a more definite ID.

@Baja_Costero is there any chance you might be familiar with this plant? I'm thinking its origins may well be Mexico which is how it got tagged Sedum mexicanum.

So both of you got it from Altman. He doesn't have it listed anymore. What a bummer.

Maybe he quit carrying it because of the doubtful ID?

@needrain @valleylynn

Here are some links to info. Yes, it is from Mexico.

According to Altman plants Cactusshop.com, they are still listing it as Sedum mexicanum???

Per the last link: "Hybrid variety of unknown origin". So where would it go in the database?

I think your DG link is very good for this plant! I also think mine doesn't quite match the spiral staircase. The spiral just doesn't quite make the cut Smiling . I would think they are very closely related, though.

Donald, would you be willing to trade some cuttings for something I have?

This is from my original post here on Plant ID forum. Janet did a lot of searching

The thread "Was I mislabeled?" in Plant ID forum

This is who we thought it was...

and this is from Altman's e-mail to me

Maybe I will go back to Lowe's and see if I can find another one. I do miss Fred and it will only be a couple weeks before they start getting their succulents in stock.

Lynn, I will let you know if they have Fred and if you don't have one nearby, let me know and i will send you one. Thumbs up

The photos of Villadia batesii sure look like the same plant to me. Did you rule it out for some reason?

Only because Altman's said the plant was Sedum Spiral Staircase and not Villadia batesii... But everything surely screamed V batesii to me except the pinkish tinge to some blooms that I did not see at all on Fred. . I just got frustrated with all the back and forth and yes and no, so that was when I just said OKAY. Sedum Twisted Fred works for me.

And evidently I was doing something right as it was covered in dozens of blooms and it grew legs and walked away.

Okay Donald. Let me know what I have that you would like. Hurray!

I agree with both of you at this time, it really does look like a match to Villadia batesii

Then to further confuse things this is what Catalogue of Life has to say about Villadia batesii (synonym for Sedum goldmanii (Rose) Reid Moran)

And this, explaining that the plant can be quite variable, white to pink blooms. Even the foliage can change depending on soil, water, heat/cold, etc. Down about a quarter of the way on the below page.
http://crassulaceae.net/sedumm...

Entry in our ATP database. This sedum has been sold under many names.
Sedum (Sedum goldmanii)

Oh those evil DRATTED taxonimists!!! Snark and Snort. Sighing! I just love (not) that it calls Villadia batesii "false".

Well. I reckon I could send another e-mail to Altman's Plants, but the first one obviously didn't change anything Thumbs down

I am going to send him that link and a couple others that are part and parcel of the ID of my plant, the e-mail discussion/phone calls, etc. I just have to gather All the info again. It has been since Feb/Mar of 2010 since this started.

Quote from the crassulaceae.net link:
"Its false name of “Villadia batesii” has become so very established that it may take another half century just to correct it! The internet is still filled with references to this old false name. Will people ever learn to call it by its new, and at last correct name of Sedum goldmanii? "

I think the one I have appears to be this plant from the photos. There are lot of photos tagged Villadia batesii in Google photos and they really look the same as the one I'm growing. I'm going to re-tag my photos as Sedum goldmanii and hope it sticks this time Smiling . I think with the combination of observation and DNA testing, the taxonomy is probably fairly stable now, but it's going to take a long, long time for published info to catch up. The written word doesn't disappear easily once it has been printed. Here's a photo I took in July.
Thumb of 2016-01-14/needrain/d203bb
I can now verify it can take a few hours of below freezing temps. My particular spot got a lot colder than it was supposed to night before last and 4-5 plants took a hit that is probably going to be fatal, but this one doesn't show a hint of any damage. Neither did a huge Mandevilla which shocks me. I miscalculate or forget something at least once or twice every winter Sad .
