I was outside with our dog this evening and I kept hearing a weird "tfft." Well, that's as best as I can describe it. Hilarious! But, the cicadas were falling off the privacy fence. Blinking

I looked around while I was standing in the pine straw and the ground was moving. Blinking I scooped up what folks I could find (they hadn't come out of their shells yet) and stuck them on our small trees.

Fortunately for them, the squirrels are going to bed because they keep making a snack of them. D'Oh!

I told DH when they went to sleep 13 years ago, we weren't in the house for one, but there were six pine trees. Now they come out and they're all gone and there's two new trees and a shrub. Hilarious!

I wonder how many our one neighbor has in their yard. They get their yard sprayed for bugs. Glare

One of the reasons my cats only go outside if they take to the leash and harness. Besides keeping them safe ..... it keeps them out of trouble - like gardens and birdfeeders and the like.

My cats are strictly indoor pets. The first I rescues from outdoors as a kitten. The other three are her young. I live on a busy road and there are coyotes out there. I am responsible for their safety and well being!

I had a new cat last night come for water and was just hanging around for 15 minutes. This one has a collar, and I completely agree, letting cats roam in city settings with traffic and fleas and ticks is just beyond stupid. We do have coyotes around as well since we've got a lot of forest preserves nearby, you may not see them daily, but they're around and there are always warnings to protect your small dogs and cats and not leave them outside unattended.

I accidentally let my annual seeds dry out Saturday, but so far I see two different seeds sprouting.

Yesterday I put out the Oriole feeder, which is about a week sooner than I usually do. Today I had an Oriole stop at it! I was glad I set it out sooner.

I have been out in the yard everyday day that is nice out. I have got so much done, which is weeding sections. I do not know what the weeds are that travel across everywhere and have purple flowers on them, that is what I have been removing. My flowers and pet cemetery were loaded with them. The cemetery, I dug them all out and put down that weed preventer fabric, whew, a workout. I am so pleased with the outcome. A before and after pics

Yesterday, I came home to find nearly 60 Gardenia 'Buttons' plants in my driveway. Turns out, the landscaper I befriended a couple months ago left them for me. Lovey dubby

Today, I took care of the cauliflower and brussels sprouts starts that I planted. They seem to be doing well so far.

Also went out metal detecting in my yard. I found an old metal plant tag as a result.

All it says is "hybrid tea Las Vegas. US PL PAT NO 4798."

I did some research, and it goes to a hybrid tea rose plant, apparently.

It would look incredible. Unfortunately, they were pulled because it has gotten too warm here in the summer for them to do well. So, right now they are recovering in their new pots on the covered section of the north-facing lanai. They might have to become houseplants come June.

That's a shame, it's the gift that counts. But why did anyone want them in the first place if they can't tolerate the Florida heat? Or someone who didn't do their research before planting, I think a lot of that happens.

I got started on my disassembled ring garden earlier. It has been sitting untouched since last May so there's weeds and grass runners in there. I managed to remove what I wanted gone so I could start digging and man, that clay is rock hard. Sighing! I soaked the ground with the sprinkler for about twenty minutes which wasn't long so I hope the ground will be "dig-able" later. DH is going to help me so it should at least go faster. I'm hoping to be done by May, even if it meansI have to be out there digging every day until May.

We've been on the upper edge of gardenia heat tolerance until last year.
