Thanks Margaret!
It was 27F when we got up this morning and ice on the water in the cat's water on the patio. After it warmed up a little I went out and looked around a little. A lot of the SDB irises buds and blooms are all watery and a lot of the bulb flowers are laying down. Crying I am most concerned about the fruit trees having bud damage so that they won't produce fruit Sighing! and is suppose to be that cold again tonight.

I don't know why, after living here for 20 years, that I still let myself get upset about the weather. Sticking tongue out

Susie, what a bummer about your iris and other spring flowers... I hope your fruit trees will be okay; the buds haven't opened yet, have they? We're supposed to go down to 28 tonight, the last I heard (every time I look at the Weather Channel they have a lower temp predicted!)... I have a feeling my rhododendrons will be toast, although with luck they'll be okay because they're right by the house. Oh well... as long as the heater doesn't go out in the GH, where all my tomatoes and peppers are, I won't be too upset Shrug!

I'm kind of wondering how many people have already planted petunias and the like outside around here... I guess it will mean higher profits for the garden centers!

Thanks for your good wishes Chelle and Sandy!

Good news, (kinda), some of the blooms on the trees turned brown but some of them still look possible. Some of the spring bulbs perked back up today, some look kinda sad still but I'm joyous about the ones that are still looking good. All of the SDB iris blooms went kaput but it looks like at least some of the buds are ok. I'll have to wait and see what other things that were budding are damaged, but I will hope for the best.

Sandy, I sure hope your things make it alright and it doesn't get as cold as they are forecasting. It is so disappointing to wait as long as us Northern gardeners wait for blooms and vegetables and then have them damaged before they ever mature. I guess that is just part of living up North. It is a good teacher of patience though! Whistling

We had a light frost and 32F early this morning, so it wasn't quite as bad as they predicted... as far as I can tell, it didn't bother anything that was exposed (and the GH stayed a "toasty" 48F). The next few nights are still supposed to be cold, but not down to freezing apparently. When I win the lottery I'm definitely buying a huge greenhouse and growing everything inside it! Big Grin

It's almost Memorial Day -- things have to warm up soon... right??

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! So glad for you Sandy!!

I'm sure hoping it warms up soon or I don't know what I'm going to do with all the plants that are getting to tall for the plant lights, but are to tender to start outside in the weather we've had. Sticking tongue out

I can't believe how good the weather has been here, a few sprinkles and a little T&L the past 3 days in the afternoon, but mostly sunny and warm. Today I planted 5 large containers with petunias for the deck, an extra large container with several varieties of herbs, moved a daylily plant, Strawberry Candy, hope it is happier and I will get more blooms from it, and planted 12 Asiatic lilies.

Margaret, your containers sound lovely.
Might put tomatoes out today, but my petunias are still tiny so they will be late this year.

Caroline, I just buy my petunias in 6 packs, I have done the seed thing and it is so time consuming and then our summers are so short I like to get a head start.

so far it is another beautiful morning, probably get more thunder showers later today.

I bought some in 6 packs too, but they are small also.

We are predicted for rain tomorrow - 80% chance. Drat. Tomorrow is the botanical garden plant sale and opening of the garden. Every other day is 0-10% chance of rain. for days on both sides. Not fair.

Oh it is nice here for the many plant sales and exchanges.
I am skipping them as I have too much to do in my own yard.

Here, too, although it was hot and sunny. I got all of the saved (and sprouted already!) dahlias, glads and four-o-clock tubers planted out, and after that I made up a few planters in the shade. I hung a large shade sail between the garage and the screen room this year, and it's been a lifesaver already! If there's any breeze at all, it'll blow through there. Nice...and the dirt falls in the yard instead of on the floor! Big Grin

I am falling way behind on my record-keeping though... Whistling

I mostly worked on potting up seedlings from my WS jugs... Chelle, I must say that your nicotiana seeds that I got through the Piggy Swap grew enthusiastically, to say the least!! Blinking Hilarious! My GH is just about full to bursting right now... tomorrow I plan to get my onions planted, which will help a bit... but still about 2 weeks from planting most things.
