I have 2 plumeria, purchased from the local nursery about 2 years ago. They have grown and had blooms last year, both plants had seed pods but one fell off during the winter. I have noticed a change in color and the seam that separates the two halves has grown more pronounced. I read a previous thread about seed pods and will be applying that info. Thanks all for the help. I am located in zone 9, south Louisiana.

It should soon be time for that pod to open , so I would make sure to either bag the pod or put a rubber band around it so the seeds don't fly away.

I put a pantyhose "sleeve" around all my seed pods (5) and yesterday discovered one of the pods had opened. I have lots of seeds in the sleeve and didn't lose a one.

When my friend said she would donate some cuttings with pods to me last fall, I asked her to number the plants she was taking the cuttings from, marking that number on the cuttings with a black magic marker. For those with pods I asked her to take a picture of the flowers and to number the pictures corresponding to that number she placed on the cuttings. This pod came from a plant that has a flower similar to the Vera Cruz Rose, with white, pointed petals, and a yellow center. A strong band of pink on the back of the petals gives a pink blush along the periphery of the petals. Unfortunately she doesn't know the name of most of her plumeria , so for now, the name of this one is #5.

That is a good system. However, that flower does in no way resemble Vera Cruz Rose..... There are many white - with - yellow - center plumerias out there. I wouldn't venture to give it a name.

I know it is not the Vera Cruz Rose, but to me, though the picture the lady took is not too great, it is similar. Like you, Hetty, I don't even try to attempt to identify a plant simply by its flower. As you correctly state, there are many, many whites with yellow centers out there. Do you have a good picture of one of your Vera Cruz Rose, front and back views?

I used the soft net bags that avocados come in. They are just lon enough and give room top pop open. Seeing how Cinco de Mayo has just passed, I had a good supply from an avocado "bar" I brought to a party. Used one on each pod. I just happened to be lucky to catch the first pod as it opened, but before I netted it. One moment it was brown and shriveled. The next, it was wiiiide open. I don't think I lost any seeds though.
