Trying to catch optimal light to take pictures in the cage is a bit of a challenge, but here are some from yesterday's late afternoon.
Vandas Ratchabury Beauty and Pakchong Blue are now joined by the smaller Vanda tessellata, just starting to open.

And Potinara Hoku Gem 'Sunspots' keeps on blooming in the cage and there are blooms on this Epi secundum type.

So you have a "cage" outside and also the sunroom?

I have my Copper Queen opening today. I do think it is gradually making more colorful flowers as it matures. I'll have to search back to last year's pictures but I'm pretty sure they were more of a soft peach. Bear in mind that when I first got this plant from Ken, it had almost completely yellow flowers blooming!

Your color is definitely changing (for the better). It does not look like my "mother" or my division will bloom anytime soon. No sign of a sheath forming. Darn.

Not much going on here, but here is what I have for June.

Got another spike on this little Zygo (AMZ-6 Big Red) not bad for a 3" pot.


Sobralia mirablis 'pinky' didn't bloom last year, so I moved it to more sun. It's loaded with buds now. First flower would
be 6" each way if the petals didn't curl

Maxilaria tenuifolia blooming like crazy in full sun, but blooms are down in the leaves


And as always, Gerberara snow ballet took a month off, but is starting up again. Note the leaf color...she likes lots of sun.

Carol, do you actually have your Maxilaria in full sun, particularly sun from 10:00 AM till 4:00 PM? My plants are nearly as large as yours but those flowers are on very short stems indeed.

I think that's the way the Maxillaria blooms. The buds form on stems about an inch or less coming from the bases of the pseudobulbs. Here's a pic that shows it:



Mine gets morning sun until about 1pm or so. They do seem to love lots of light.

I may have to try growing mine that way, at least one "experimental" plant. All my orchids get some (light) dappled sunlight and perhaps a couple of early morning or very late afternoon sun. Because I have had plants sunburn, I am just leery of having sun on them from 11:00 till 4:00.

Carol, nice Zygo and I do like your little 'pinky'. Wait, that didn't sound right. You grow your Max about the same as I do.

Ken, I was skeptical when Andy told me full sun as his place is right on the coast, but at this time of year full sun doesn't happen much before noon. It spent the winter hanging from a leafless plumeria, and so far remains there. I may have to move it later, if it starts to burn, but the Plumeria will be leafed out by then. Same thing with the Sobralia.

Thanks, Carol. I can rig up some wire hangers from one of my oaks that would give a plant(s) full morning sun but dappled shade after noon'ish. I have several varieties of Cattleya alliance plants that call for lots of sun too, but once a few prized Cattleya get ugly sunburn, I run scared.
