Despite what you may have heard about growing clematis, these beautiful plants are quite easy to grow. There are many variables to take into consideration when selecting the perfect plant for your location.

Thread OP

Your article is outstanding! Very informative and inspirational. Hopefully it will encourage more gardeners to try these wonderful plants.
While almost all flowers are beautiful, I like the fullness of the double flowered clematis. I have made an observation regarding another plus of the doubles: the flowers seem to hold up and last much longer -- in my limited experience. I have several unnamed singles and all are already bloomed out. My only double is Vanso Blue Light. It started blooming in early May and is still going strong -- even though planted much later than my others. I also noted that individual flowers last for weeks at a time, much longer than the singles -- definitely a bonus! Am curios if this is just the case with my specific cultivars, or if it applies generally to double vs single flowers?

Thank you Njiris. I never really thought about or noticed if my double flowers last longer, but I will definitely take notice this year. Interesting observation. My Blue Light does seem to flower most of the summer though, now that you mention it. Maybe others have some input on that?
