I got this one as a seedling, and it's been two and a half looooong years that I've been waiting for this to happen! After a nasty wet year and a bout of rot on the stem (you can see that in the photo) finally it's going to, so I have to share a photo. I will add one with the open flower after it happens. It's a NOID for now, until I see what the bloom looks like...I'm assuming it's just regular obesum. These were grown from seed by one of our local nurseries, and they weren't marked when put up for sale.

Well, I said I would post an image when it bloomed, so here it is. I have also posted it elsewhere in a new post on the forum in hopes of getting an ID on it because I don't think that this is the "Classic Obesum" as I originally thought. It's all very exciting to me because it took another two weeks to bloom, even after this photo. The anticipation about drove me insane!

That resembles the one called 'Double Color' - very nice!!

I've been searching around the internet and found one called "Black Emperor" and another called "Black Raspberry" that seem to look a bit like it as well.

VERY NICE!!! the dark bits will fade in sunlight, tho' Mine that look similar get early morning sun, until about 11, then shade.

One parent is probably a red named "Arrogant", a true red with the contrasting white throat.

Since it is a seedling, not grafted, you have the honor of naming it!

Well, I will certainly look into "Arrogant"! I know nothing of seedlings. Are they like other plants that don't stay true to parent when they are grown from seed, sort of like real roses? If that's the case, then that's super cool!!

You never can be sure of what a seed will produce. Or, maybe you can if you're growing a pink obesum! But they can even change when they bloom the second time.

I'm trying to get seeds that do sort of come true, probably a five or ten year project, crossing double reds with different double reds, for example. So I can sell seeds that I can guarantee. In general, you now do get a white from a white, or a red from a red...

I read somewhere that since red is the the biggest selling color in Adeniums, they are working on developing a relatively true-breeding red strain in Taiwan. Not so much for selling seed as for mass-producing red adeniums.
