We are in the 90s again with low humidity. It's only 91F right now, but I am waiting for some shade before I go out to work again. YUK !

It's 91º in Houston and 57% humidity making the heat index (feels like) at 100º
I have been stuck indoors for better part of 4 days. Surely is NOT the way to acclimate myself to this hot weather. Immediately when I go outside I feel myself wilting. NO worries, in a few months I will be complaining that I'm cold.

Last night the TV Weatherguessers were busy explaining why the day before they had predicted lots and lots of rain for us and nothing happened. At one time in the afternoon while I was out walking my dog we did hear a very few rumbles of thunder way, way off in the distance. But that was it. Never came any closer.

Lots of rain the day before so we did not need that rain.

We had a rain-dropping thunderstorm move through yesterday between 6:00 and 7:00 PM. It dropped the 6:00 PM temperature from 94F down to 82F. That was good. I see that our heat indices have been increased for the next four days, from 105F-110F to 110F-115F. Brutal to work in and dangerous as well.

Thank God for AC, Gatorade, iced tea, and ice water. Staples for survival.

Truth be told, I hate to drink water........always have. But beginning in the spring, when the temperatures begin to creep above 80F, I will begin drinking water. I guess I average 2-3 glasses/day in April/May, and 3-4 glasses beginning in June. By July, with temperatures mostly in the 90's, I have added Gatorade, usually alternating that and water. Thru August, that total is more like 6 glasses. I always drink a full glass of (refrigerated) unsweetened tea for lunch, every single day.

I am better at hydrating myself the hotter the temperature is. I have even started wearing a floppy hat, and other than the occasional baseball cap, I never wore a hat. If I "forget", my wife is usually out on the porch "reminding" me to put it on. Whistling I have 12-20 places frozen by my dermatologist every six months and this has been constant for the last five or so years. I think these actinic lesions are due more to my tens of thousands of hours spent out in the sun, with no shirt, no shoes, no sunscreen, and no hat. Just shorts. I will pay for those sun-loving days the rest of my life. Sighing!

I cannot abide the taste (or looks) of Gatorade. Saw a homemade rehydration - fresh orange juice, about half as much fresh lemon juice, pinch of salt, honey if needs sweetening, and twice or more amount of water. Sounds much more palatable to me, although I generally just drink ice water, and the temps here rarely exceed 80. Well.. except for this summer...

High 90s is more than hot enough for me. I am so glad I don't have to deal with your humidity, Ken.

I don't drink enough water. I never show any symptoms of dehydration, but I do think I need to start drinking a lot more liquids. I just I am never truly thirsty. All of my life I have been a "sipper" and have never just chugged liquid anything down.

I came close to heat prostration twice last summer - real close. I learned my lesson. It only took me 71 years! I never said I was a fast-learner. *Blush*

I managed to get myself severely dehydrated once, but it was in the winter! We were really busy with our goats and doing a LOT of running back and forth from the house to the barn; too busy to even get a decent meal, let alone drink enough fluids. Didn't realize what was happening till I ended up with a splitting headache for a couple of days that no amount of headache meds would knock out. Till I realized that I felt like I had a hangover without having had anything to drink. So I sat down. Drank a glass of water. Waited a half an hour, then drank another. Bingo. Headache gone.
I'm really careful in the heat, but the cold faked me out.

I am a water hog. It is my drink of choice. I will easily drink 5-8 bottles especially on a hot day. After a day of sweating (I sweat with the best of them) I MUST have a mineral drink or I will stay thirsty.

5 pm here - enjoying a refreshing pom-lemonade with a splash of lime flavored gin and a mint leaf. Yum.

That sure does sound refreshing, Deb. My outside temperature monitor, mounted near my front door brick, registered 114F at 7:00PM.
