If this has been a previous thread topic, feel free to delete it.
I was just looking at Zuzu's thread about a Clematis named after Phyllis Diller and it got me to thinking about notable people who should have a rose named after them.
I came up with a few just off the top of my head:

Erma Bombeck, Jonas Salk, Dave Whittinger (!)

Never enough, as far as I'm concerned. Big Grin I grow to like her more each year. Her comments at the recent Comedy Central roast of Justin Bieber showed off a whole new raunchy side, which is far preferable to the prim and proper demeanor she usually displays.

Zuzu, I was thinking about that roast too! I so loved that, she had me in stitches!

My first thought was Zuzu should have a rose named after her. For years now, Zuzu and roses are practically synonymous to me.

Gosh, let's see. Should I display false modesty and say "Aw, shucks"? Or should I agree and suggest that there should be a whole Zuzu series? Mauve Zuzu, Red Zuzu, Climbing Zuzu, etc.

I like the Zuzu series idea! You'd have to decide which qualities each one would possess though.

That certainly would be easier than hybridizing them myself, which is something I once thought of doing, but life's too full of other wonderful things that take up my time.

Somehow I think gopher resistance would be at the top of her favorable qualities list !

Baby Boomers will no doubt agree that Annette Funicello should have a rose named after her.

Baby Brianna
would post a link but its to sad and graphic
you can just google baby Brianna and get the full story.
I will be naming a daylily after her though as I don't have many nice roses to cross.
If you would have a mind at peace, a heart that cannot harden, go find a door that opens wide upon a lovely garden.

I was thinking of ZuZu and California Sue - the rose garden queens of ATP.

Rosa Parks is a great suggestion.

Maybe Candice Bergen, an elegant grandiflora.

Maybe the late Dick Van Patten raising money for animal rescue.

How about Caitlin Jenner - a rose with changeable coloring from blue to pink. Just kidding.

If I were asked to name a new rose it would have to be a person who I met many years ago before getting married.
My wife's Grandmother who's name was Florence was one of the most loving and beloved people I have met.
Born in the late 1800s, she was witness to much of what we take for granted today. As a little girl she lived across from the fire station and could vividly remember the firemen hooking up the horses and rushing off to the reported fire.
She became a teacher and traveled to western Massachusetts every Monday to teach her students and then returning home at the end of the week.
As a young wife she had to release her new husband to fight in WW1, only to return a changed man due to a gas attack. Florence saw some of the first automobiles, the first telephone, the first radio, the first television. She lived through four wars, voted for at least 8 presidents.
Her home was always an open and shinning beacon for any and all who would visit, whither invited or unexpected. She accepted and respected everyone she met, gaining from what they offered and giving what she possessed. She was an influence on every person that met her.
On her passing just after her 99th birthday it became clear how many lives she had touched, influnced, and had grown from.
My favorite saying from her was, "I came in on the horse and buggy and I'm going out on the rocketship."
My nomination for the name of rose would be, Mrs. Florence Scofield.
Thank you, Chuck
Life is a journey of adventure and discovery, sail bravely into each new day.

A worthy choice! It would need to be a very beautiful and hardy rose.
