Hampton Court Palace Flower Show (Part 3)

By NEILMUIR1
July 26, 2011

As the sun came out, my day at Hampton Court beside the River Thames was getting better, apart from the odd shower. Now I could at last get out and wander on this hallowed ground. Join me as I finish in the floral marquee and go for another trek.

Dear Charleen, so is Charley but I don't get many pictures of him to show his UK Fan Club!
If it had been a better day, I may have some better pictures. However thank you as always for your most kind support, and me getting hosed down by Sarah as she would not let me in the house all muddy, when I came back.
Well at least Phoenix saw the funny side of it! Although I did not! I have sent off Doris's prize for her so I hope that cheers her up and it gets there. No doubt you will here, if it does.
I also hope that you goodself and Charley will join me in Part 4? No carrots for him if he doesn't!
Group hug Lovey dubby
Neil.

Dear Charleen, he surely does not want Sarah's carrot cake? He needs Spinach cake to make him even a stronger man!
Sarah has not been well as she had the flu. Then she broke a tooth last night and had to go to the Dentist, who was not kind with her. So she is a bit in the wars at the moment!
No more chocolate. Hurray!
Does Charley eat chocolate in cookies?
Regards.
Neil.

Neil I once again enjoyed your article especially the trough gardens and the bonsai.I don.t know why but I was fascinated by the cemetery bonsai. It reminded me of when I was younger and we used to go hiking in the state park and we would find these small family cemeteries from the 1800's out in the middle of the woods. Strange the connections to our childhoods we sometimes make. Looking forward to part 4.

Dear Bob, thank you for your most kind comments comments. I love doing Articles that although in four parts try to make everyone Happy! People always think of our Country, sorry it has been changed on my microbadge to Region now, for Stonehenge. Stonehenge was only erected in 2500 BC although the blue stones go back to 3000 BC, but in the isle of Lewis the standing stones there which may have been a burial site go back to 5000 BC!
That is a lot older than the Pyramids in Egypt. The oldest still habitat-ed house close to me goes back to 800 BC. So it is a bit of a shock when you go in some of the cemeteries or graveyards as they were called.
As a lot of people try to work out BC from AD, which gets confusing to say the least.
In the UK there were hardly any evergreen trees apart from yew or Taxus baccata so this tree was thought to be magical as it kept its leaves during winter. They were always planted around cemeteries and burial mounds to ward off evil spirits, yet the tree and everything about it is highly poisonous. Some of the yews around burial mounds were thought to be about 2500 years old. But as Yew regenerates itself from the outside that was in fact proven to be not the case. As when deeper core sample were made, they turned out to be 4000 + years old!
Enough of history and I am glad you liked the bonsai's. Keep up your good work with Heucheras and anymore I see I will post them on the site!
Regards form England.
Neil.

Wow Neil, every one of your tours has been spectacular, but his is my favorite. So many of the plants in this one I grow and I'm so excited to see them in all their glory here. Princess Diana is a gorgeous clematis and you just may have convinced me to purchase that one as well. As always, I love the lily pictures and bonsai, although I don't have any bonsai. The troughs have me drooling all over my keyboard. Thanks for another wonderful tour. I'll be spending a lot of time looking at these pictures over and over again. Thumbs up

Neil, we are so fortunate to have you show us your country's beautiful flower shows! I almost can't imagine all that beauty in one place, but your photos allow me to share in it. I don't know what I like best, I will say I never thought of lettuces in a hanging basket, and I loved that!

Dear Brenda, thank you so much for your most kind comments as you spoil me. As you know slugs and snails love Hosea's and lettuce amongst other things. So by growing lettuce in hanging baskets, it is easy to cut so you get more of it to put in your shrimp sandwiches, and the slugs, and snails can't get to it! You can also grow lots of different coloured lettuce in one basket, therefore saving space. Plus no pests means no spraying, which means they are organic, another bonus indeed.
I have been out taking more photos as we have three weeks of rain, as normal. It is T-shirt weather today as it is 64F!
I so hope you will join me in Part 4?
I hope you are both well?
Regards.
Neil.

Dear Linda, thank you for your kind comments! Bonsai can take a long time depending on which ones you grow, something like an oak does. But something like a Cotoneaster does not take so long to get a nice result!
