someone told me when the yellow flower appears stop watering
is that logical?
i thought this is the stage the plant needs more energy-water

There's a Vegetable and Fruit forum that could possibly give you some good growing information. I found many references to pumpkins there. I don't grow pumpkins, so I'm going to see if @Weedwhacker might be able to help you.

David, you're definitely right to question the logic of that line of thinking... pumpkins and squash need plenty of water to grow their fruit. The first flowers will usually be on a "stalk" and are the male flowers; the female flowers will have a tiny pumpkin at their base. Once the pumpkins are near the end of their growing season and are mature is the only time I can think of that might make sense to stop watering, although where I am they often get a lot of rain at that time and still seem to do fine.

Two decorative pumpkins...... One was very thirsty on the hot weekend so it looked a little bad. The other planted on a old compost heap. Looks like is in a very bad condition. I gave it a good dose of water. Anything else?

This year, 2016, am also growing two "decorative pumpkins" from seeds salvaged out of an enormous pumpkin tossed in a dumpster. Im going out on a limb calling them "decorative " because these pumpkins are so UGLY they're beautiful!! The seeds were 3 years old. To my surprise they germinated indoors immediately and I have transplanted them to a full sun location where I grew pumpkins last year. I have to water my gardens every day because it gets so hot everything starts to wilt. The problem I had last year was with powdery mildew. I'm new to vegetable gardening this being my second year. So as a novice my advice is if your pumpkins are wilting and need to be watered, then water them, or they will die. And if they get powdery mildew or some other secondary problem, treat that too. Gardening is time consuming and can be expensive. But for me it's the most rewarding activity I have ever done.

Are the pumpkins you're growing the "warty" ones? I haven't grown those, but I love the way they look! I do have Lady Godiva pumpkins, which have hull-less seeds... I basically love growing weird things .

I posted last week about two giant pumpkin seedlings I had growing in my garden this year. Unfortunately we had a big windstorm with rain and the bigger of the two seedlings was broken right at ground level. It was alost completely sheared off. So I cleaned the break gently with bottled water, applied a little neosporin, put skewers on either side, gently closed the stem back into place, used floral tape to hold it in place and now I'm hoping for the best. I've fixed small branches using this method on shrubs. But for the pumpkin it dosent look good. So I also went ahead and braced the other one, just in case we had large winds again. I'd send photos but haven't figured out how to do it yet on my galaxy s4. Anyone have idea how upload onto garden.org? I've actually got several photos I'd like to share. And a new thread on Foxglove mutations (peloric) flowers, which would be very interesting for our readers.
