Wow, the purchased seed did well, Paddy!
I found a few ebay sellers and I'm ordering some.
If my seeds don't germinate for some reason, at least I'll have the purchased seed to work with.
I hope to make it to Kevin's clinic next spring. I would really like to learn from the master! Thumbs up

Terri,

We are a fun group. You may want to look at the videos from the old clinics and get the notes. I don't know the links but I'm sure that Lynn does! Some of the Kevin Vaughn vignettes that Lynn has gathered are useful too.

Thanks, Kevin!
That's exactly what I'll do.

YES! A really fun, nice group. I can't wait to meet some of you next spring. Group hug
There's a nice "feel" here. Almost feels...familar for me, like sitting aroung a big table with great friends.
I've visited some glass forums and gardening forums that were not near as friendly as this.
So glad I found you all!

Thank you, Lynn! You are a sweetheart!

I bought the seed on Ebay from a UK seller , I don't have the name anymore but the label said "200 mixed sempervivum seed "
Here they are today . I also bought jovibarba seed from sempervivum.de and only one germinated

You have given me an idea, Paddy! Thumbs up
I would love to grow semps with seed from other countries . And, I would love to mix those plants with plants grown from my seed. Hopefully some of them will flower at the same time.
I obviously have a long range plan here.

I've ordered seed from the UK, Germany and accidently ordered 2 different seed orders from The Neatherlands. I shouldn't have clicked on anything I didn't understand on their ebay site. *Blush*
No big deal it was only $10. Now I have a bit more seed to work with.

I was going to put all seeds in the crisper drawer for a month. I've read many places that it my improve gemination percentages. Does this sound right? Or, should I go with valleylynn's milk jug method?

And, am I able to sow seeds any time? Like as soon as the cold stratification is complete?
Super psyched over here, in case you can't tell! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

Terri,

You can start them any time but you have to worry if they will be ready to get through the winter if they're started too late. Tiny seedlings will tend to heave out and be killed in the winter.

I store the seeds in the crisper to keep them fresh from the time I harvest in the fall until I plant them in March. There is some debate as to whether cold stratification improves germination and it may be that there is some help but it's not essential. You might try starting half the batch in one way and half wait until the spring. I have grown some in a window over the winter when I was a kid in MA, although they stay very green, not coloring up and they have to be gradually adapted to life outdoors.

Thanks, Kevin.
I like the idea of trying some now and some in March.
I don't want to loose a lot of seedlings, so I'll probably sow most of them in the spring.
I want to try the milk jug technique, those seeds are sown in March too, right?

I did mine in the milk jugs in February, as the milk jugs protect them from the freezing/thawing cycle, and the seeds don't germinate until the conditions are right. I had very good results. Much less baby sitting the tiny seedlings with the milk jug method.
But you could try some using both methods, to see what works best for you.

I def want to do most of the seed in the milk Jugs. I also have some groovy containers with lids. They're the cheap rubbermaid "Take Alongs" No problem if I want to cut holes in the lids.
They're the largest ones I found. Probably 10" x 16". One gallon size.
I plan on putting my milk jugs in old rectangular milk crates, so they cannot topple over or be disturbed. I think I can do the same with the other rectangular containers.

You just have to be careful that the flat topped containers down allow to much rain/moisture into the seedlings. Let us know how the flat topped containers work for you.

I was going to use those flats inside. I decided to use the milk jugs for the outside.

Turns out I have some sort of succulent sickness. I now have Echeveria and sedeveria lined up in my kitchen.

Terri @Terristanley I just saw this thread - and your new avatar really is sweet!! I didn't read too carefully so not sure but it seems you're thinking of joining us for clinic in 2016 that would be so fun!!! You will see that these folks (us folks) are just as friendly in person as online!
I love your seed idea - collecting from different sources! Can't wait to see what you come up with!!
Cheers I tip my hat to you.
