@char

I know we can't have too many stickies in a forum and I don't know if this one warrants such a position, but is there a way to make this thread more visible and easily accessible somehow?

Or...maybe better still...
@Dave , is there a way to create something like a separate database with search features that make sense for color comparison photos?

My justification is the numerous people that have made posts or threads looking for daylilies of a particular color, whether they want 'daylilies the same purple as Bela Lugosi' or daylilies that are a particular type of warm yellow. Lighting, camera types, and nearby objects in a picture can all change the look of an individual bloom, so individual plant pictures in the database have to be taken with a grain of salt...

...but when you have points of reference (other daylilies in the picture, especially if they are well-known daylilies), it really makes it much clearer what the true color of a daylily is.

No doubt this would be helpful for other plants, too.

Can we work on setting up a 'comparison photos' section in our database with search features that will be more pertinent /accurate to comparison photos? (I.e. a search feature that takes you directly to the post/picture and doesn't require sorting through an entire thread; also, maybe one that has a search for "post must include the following:") It could work like the multi-plant images with tagging, but I don't see the multi-plant database as being the appropriate place to put these pictures. ...I really feel that the color comparison photos are their own beast with their own set of relevant search options. Rolling my eyes.

Thoughts?

Good thread. I don't remember seeing this one last summer. Would love to participate when I have some blooms, which could be awhile thanks to this weather.

Thanks, Cindy! I hope you do! I look forward to a bunch of mine blooming this year so I can do more comparison photos, too. I loved everyone else's pictures last year and it really helped me get a sense of color--and size!--among daylilies. I hope it helps people make decisions about which daylilies they want for their gardens, understand daylily characteristics and options a bit more, and maybe even visualize certain hybridizing possibilities better.

If nothing else, it gives readers/viewers lots of beautiful eye candy! Lovey dubby

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking for or why. There were 10 images submitted to this thread and 22 replies...

If you want to refer back to this thread you can star the first post which will give you a link in your starred pages on your profile.

If this is a database question it should have been asked in the database forum where the database admins can answer the question of changes to the database.

If you want to add your images to the database then adding the images to the multi-plant photo database would seem to be the best solution based on the current set up on ATP. Daylilies have a section in there that already sorts out the images containing daylilies which is easy to get to. At the bottom of the "New Multi-Plant Photos" box is a link to "see more new multi-plant photos". Click. At the top of the page you will see "return to the multi-plant photos front page". Click. At the top is a link "Daylilies" for the images that contain daylily images. Labeling the blooms and placing these 10 images plus any additional images of this type in the multi-plant photo area would be easy to do and they are easily accessible for someone to look at. The image would also be automatically be linked in the daylily database on each of the identified cultivars individual page.

This is awesome! And the one in the database are great too, now that I can find them! Someday I'llhave something other than seedlins, but not this year I fear.

Char, I was talking 'out loud' as I was thinking. I'm not entirely sure what is best yet.

I like the idea of adding it to the multi-plant page in terms of simplicity. If I wanted to look up "red daylilies", though, it doesn't have a way to search the multi-plant photos for that. Now the plant search feature allows a search for characteristics, but time and time again I have found it doesn't do the best with color searches. Sad

Can you tell me how I get to "New Multi-Plant Photos"? When I click the multi-plant photos link (from the white/blue ATP menu), I don't get that option. I have the options to add a photo or:
» View more images
» View a random Multi-Plant Image
» View Your Multi-Plant Images

Do you think the mobile site might be different than the full site for that page?

I do not own any mobile devices, haven't found a need for one yet. Smiling I just had a friend check ATP on a mobile set up for me. We went into the multi-plant photo database by the blue "Goodies" bar as you must have. The page you are taken to shows you the new multi-plant photos, (the "frequently tagged plants" box is on the top with the "Daylilies" link inside).

Adding these images to the multi-plant photos is what I would consider the best option based on the current set up of ATP. The multi-plant photo database is set up to receive these types of images, the labeling system is there, easy to use, automatically puts the image in the individual plant page ... I suggest you re-post your questions about creating a separate database or a search function for these few images over in the Plant Database forum. The Plant Database forum is best suited for these types of questions.

I just thought I would bring this thread back to the top so that those of you lucky people with daylily season already starting in your area can chime in and start posting comparison photos.

It doesn't matter which color you pick, you can always do colors that have already been done, the whole point is to get a feel for how different cultivars compare to each other, and we all have our own, unique combinations of cultivars within a color range, so post away!
